On September 11, 2001 the world watched in shock and disbelief as planes flew in to New Yorks World Trade Center and the Pentagon in Washington, and Americans realized they were under attack. But by whom? What really happened? In The Unofficial Story, the fifth estates Bob McKeown introduces us to people who believe the real force behind the attacks was not Osama Bin Laden, but the U.S. government itself.
Emerging from the dust and debris that day was a movement, known these days as 9/11 Truth or truthers people who believe that 9/11 was part of a vast conspiracy and cover-up by a criminal faction within the U.S. government. As the fifth estate reports, public opinion polls now show that the majority of Americans believe the Bush Administration had advance knowledge of those attacks and somehow allowed them to happen and that one-third of Canadians share the same belief.
In The Unofficial Story, Bob McKeown explores why these questions and theories are growing in popularity.
Youll meet some of the leading proponents of truther theories: Richard Gage, an American architect, explains how the WTC twin towers and the lesser known Tower #7 could only have crumbled as they did due to explosive charges placed inside the buildings. Others, including Canadian professor Kee Dewdney, insist that the story of the brave fight by the passengers of United Airlines Flight 93 must have been a hoax. But, youll also hear from others who dispel truther theories and try to understand why, from JFKs assassination to the moon landing to 9/11, a culture of conspiracy springs up around certain historic events.
Despite the difference of opinion between those who blame the hijackers and those who blame their own government, the real importance of the fight over 9/11 truth is that it may have less to do with the past than the future.

May 5, 2010 - The Pentagon was definitely an inside job, that much is certain. I mean, a plane hit the Pentagon, where was the wreakage? And why was the hole in the side of the building, so small compared the the size of the craft that apparently hit it? The WTC towers, yeah ok I'll give you that, but the Pentagon? Yeah, right!

May 19, 2010 - I saw this when it first aired. I was in shock that the CBC had the balls to air this. Thank U Canada & the CBC, which is government owned & mainly funded by the taxpayers. Too bad U.S. news media won't run with this one - but why would they? I've met far too many U.S. citizens that R in such denial over this. May I suggest they start with a couple of 911 truth documentary videos-those that have NEVER & will never be aired on mainstream. I urge people to turn the remote to the OFF position.

Jul 17, 2010 - I cannot believe that architect could get on national tv and spread such misinformation on his own profession to a world of sheep hungry for a buffet of conspiracy hay. Those buildings fell because they where structually compromised from a very hot fire. Fire is how we make steel . When you heat steel to very hot temperatures it becomes molten or liquid and has no further rigidity thus making it impossible to carry the weight of the structure above it. They even changed their hypothesis about what caused it a couple of times. And its signed by Bush on the "splash page" that NIST cannot be held accountable for THE explaination. But you just did it in 11 lines? Wow. What do we need NIST for?

Jul 27, 2010 - I am a welder myself. I own a trucking company and we stretch or extend the frames on large comercial highway trucks all the time. The first thing the manufacturer makes sure it does is to add warning stickers to the frames of the trucks NOT to heat or weld the frames to ensure you don't remove the temper in the steel and compromise its strength. If you are a welder da2nox you have to know that. And steel becomes flexable before it becomes liquid when heated. Here endith the lesson !

Jul 28, 2010 - Good God. Look jet fuel burns at 4500 degrees F . The steel in those buildings was made at 2500 degrees F. This is very simple math and physics at work here. Although the north tower was hit first and fell last is very easy to understand. North tower was hit higher up on the floors hence less weight above the fire so it took longer to compromise the structure but in the end the fire did what fire does. S T was hit last but the structure was carrying more weight above the fire so it fell first.

The emotional toll this kind of public misdirection induces on the surviving families of the men and women killed in those buildings is inexcusable. Does a tree whos top has been burned in a fire instantly turn to sawdust when that top falls over? If you break your hip does the rest of your leg simply shatter? No because those other parts WERE NOT AFFECTED. You can't have a straight down collapse of a building unless EVERYTHING ELSE GETS OUT OF THE WAY.

The very firm that designed and built the twin towers have admitted they did not anticipate OR design into the towers the ability to withstand a breach of the structure to this magnitude. Futhermore they couldn't conceive the thought that the towers would have over 100,000 lbs of jet fuel each left to burn out of control for over 1.5 hrs. Titanic was a great design to, but then enters an iceburg ! OOPS didn't see that one did we ?

Pretty obvious it was Jet fuel...and you believe Jet fuel burned for an hour and a half after that...you gotta admit that's a little bit funny. The builders of the WTC towers did account for it being hit by a boeing 707 back in the day. It's not like builders of tall building don't have to consider air-traffic...get a grip.

Airplanes tend to require fuel to strike buildings. I guess I missed the part where the Titanic completely imploded into intself upon striking the iceburg.
