May 11, 2012 - I recently found one from an old timer in Wyoming. His old bass player from the 60's had died. He was living in Montana at the time. His wife asked him to sell it. I picked it up from him for $2500. NOT $25K, $2500. I can tell you this-I have allowed every 'A' list guy in town play this and they all say the same thing-it is undeniably the best sounding bass they've ever played. And some have other Pre-CBS Fenders in their stable. Oh, and did I mention it was Candy Red? Rarest ever...

tatsandteles Says:

May 11, 2012 - I posted a video of the Jazz bass I bought. Check it out.

angryretardcereal Says:

May 11, 2012 - Very very lucky to own such a glorious jazz, expecially in candy Apple red. I wouldn't mind having an original one in black.

tatsandteles Says:

May 11, 2012 - Well, the only thing is.... I PLAY GUITAR!!! I've been thinking about taking it to a Vintage Guitar show and trading it for a Les Paul. It's a very difficult call, as it's such a rare piece. And to hear it played, and played well... it's like nothing I've ever heard. Seriously. EVERYONE who has played it just sits there with their jaws on the floor, especially ME. Going to bust it out at a jam session for a friend of mines wedding coming up. Hope someone doesn't steal it!

angryretardcereal Says:

May 11, 2012 - If its what drives your soul, trade it for a beautiful 54 les Paul. It'll mean more to you and (hopefully) a deserving bassist will aquire it an appreciate it

angryretardcereal Says:

May 11, 2012 - I mean if I had a 59 les Paul and i didn't play guitar which I don't, id trade it for a bass or two (obviously of the same value) because I think the instruments belong in the righful hands

tatsandteles Says:

May 11, 2012 - I have to agree. I had considered renting it to a studio, or even loaning it out on recording dates. I already have it promised to one of our local players for a project he's working on. It's been played alot for a reason. Appreciate your insights. I just saw an opportunity and jumped on it, and took a chance on it knowing very little about it when I bought it. It certainly surpassed all my expectations.

angryretardcereal Says:

May 11, 2012 - Absolutely. I'd love such an interesting and well crafted bass. I'm personally a Gibson guy but I own a few select early fenders. The stack knob jazz is just the 59 les Paul of the bass kingdom lol very rare, sonicly perfect and feels right every time.

behjoh Says:

May 16, 2012 - Even older than mine. Holly crap !!!!!! :-)

TopCatulica Says:

May 18, 2012 - Goddamn. The man has to be technically brilliant AND play with feel and groove. Phew!

evilmurderproduction Says:

May 21, 2012 - I have to say the Fender Jazz bass has always been my favorite bass. It has a certain sound that I like, not really sure how to explain it.
