One of the parents had seen Paige and Shane having sex in the car and told their children about it and it resulted in the kids getting into a fight. Paige believed that it was important to speak to younger children about it and to clarify that whether or not someone is gay, it's not a bad thing. It's just who some people are.

The point of the question is, back stories to explain things are useless in one-way conversations like advertisements because you can't ask for the explanation if it's not given.
