I guess it's symbolic to me of all the family members our fallen service men at this time of year. Dec 23, 2011 - I understand completely. My mother died on Christmas day and her mother, my grandmother's birthday is Christmas. My brother's birthday is the day after Christmas. They are all gone now and this time of year used to be so sad for me. I have learned to move on from the sadness and now I have replaced that with reflection. I am a lot quieter during this time of year but I now get a tree and decorate the house and make sure I shower my grown children with gifts and love.
