Title: Dance of the Spirits: Incredible Real Time Northern Lights from Jan 24 Solar Storm

Added: Jan 28, 2012

Author: ingenioustv

Duration: 5:39

Description:
This is incredible, real time footage of the Northern Lights, Aurora Borealis filmed on January 24th during the peak of a Solar Storm. This is not time-lapse, this is how the Northern Lights really can dance and move across the sky. The colours are true as well. We even captured a shooting star at 02:30.The video was filmed during one of my annual Northern Lights photo and video expeditions. I'm running more of these in 2013: http://www.xdcam-user.com/ultimate-documentary-production-workshop/northern-lights-expeditions-to-norway/Shot using a Sony PMW-F3 using a 2 frame slow shutter, S-Log and +18db gain (ISO 6400). Sadly compressing to H264 makes the video a bit blocky and with a lot of banding. I'll try to upload a higher quality version once I return home from Norway at the beginning of Feb.

Mar 11, 2012 - It doesn't matter how many times I see it, the Northern lights never quite look real on a tv screen!!!!!Seeing them for real is without question in the top 5 on my 'Bucket list'!!!!!! I don't care how cold I have to get to see them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mar 24, 2012 - I am living now in Northern Finland it is always so damn cold in here, but the Northern Lights are amazing. Really nice video, I saw huge one the same night, but only from Oulu city. From outside the cities looks much cooler.

May 4, 2012 - Hi!The best place in the world is in Abisko in Sweden! You've clear weather almost every night and northern lights at least three days a week! This will be from late September to late April. In between it will be too light because of it's 24 hours of daylight from the beginning of May until the early september. A three and a half month long day! :-)

AuroraGraphy Says:

May 4, 2012 - I am Lappish and I've seen auroras from my birth until today and know a lot about them. I'm living in the far north of Sweden, close to the Arctic Circle so in my 67 years of life I've seen hundereds of them! That's why I can tell this is "NOT" real speed! Some times you can be lucky to see an corona in a northern light. Normally you only se one or two coronas a year, some years you never se any one at all because it's over in only half a minute or a few seconds. You must watch frequently.

AuroraGraphy Says:

May 4, 2012 - Only a corona can move as fast as this movie or even faster! The coronas also has more color than an ordinary aurora!

hemirawinia Says:

May 7, 2012 - WOW all i can say is i wish i were you and could see auroras all my life...does it seem like not a big deal when you see it since you see it alot? and in the dark period in the winter how often do you see the aurora? is it every night? or just some nights or only very few nights????? im so curious...i think they are so fascinating and i wish could see one....that would be amazing!!!
