Apr 8, 2012 - SirKata:かた形 are set forms that are used to help a karateka空手か learn balance, timing, focus and eye hand coordination, maai間合い or the relevant time and space plus distance of two or more combatants. Foot work and breathing techniques (ibuki息吹), blocks, sweeps and strikes and kicks. Kata also has bunkai分解 or application of the fighting techniques within the kata. I do not watch UFC but if you seen a Karateka kick, punch, block , sweep all of these techniques are part of kata and it`s bunkai. Osu

Apr 8, 2012 - SirPlease see my answer to Mr. iBlobs23 question right above your question. I hope it will answer your question. Osu

Apr 8, 2012 - Another question. Is karate effective in streets situation? IN MY OPINION as far as i know effective martial arts in street life situation are Filipino Martial arts or Kali/Eskrima and krav maga.. although lots of martial arts have weaknesses like Brazilian jiu jiutsu needs to grapple. Respect to all martial arts

Apr 8, 2012 - @1banryukyu Bunkai means "analysis," not application.

1banryukyu Says:

Apr 8, 2012 - SirBunぶん分:portionkaiかい解:to come loose, be solvedBunkaiぶんかい分解 to analysis the kata, to break it down and to understand the application of the techniques. The way I used BUNKAI分解 was correct it is the examination of the parts of the kata and how to use those techniques as they apply to fighting. Thank you for your time. Osu

6arcsn1sky Says:

Apr 8, 2012 - @1banryukyu No, you still got the definition of bunkai wrong. I checked in every Japanese dictionary, I researched the Chinese characters, and its actually meaning is analysis. To prove my point, I'll give you a link with other JMA terms that had been misunderstood.

1banryukyu Says:

Apr 8, 2012 - Sir君の日本語の辞書で分解があるでも空手の分解はちょっと違う。沖縄の方言が分かりますか。僕は沖縄県で空手の練習をしました。

1banryukyu Says:

Apr 9, 2012 - Sir"breaking it down into the individual componentsaction whereby you do one technique, then your opponent executes a different one."taken from the link you sent me. I wrote: Bunkaiぶんかい分解 to analysis the kata, to break it down and to understand the application of the techniques. "It's almost like fighting," he says. "It's a gradual progression," the link you sent me. I wrote:how to use those techniques as they apply to fighting. What I got from your link is the essence of what I stated.

6arcsn1sky Says:

Apr 9, 2012 - @1banryukyu My bad. You did type analysis. And do me a favor, don't call me sir because you're actually older than me.

Apr 28, 2012 - what the technique at 0:52 is for?

techdogg Says:

May 7, 2012 - In kyokunshin it's called shuto mawashi uke. Other karate styles call it shuto uke. Or just shuto for sort. It's a blocking technique.

DuskfallBand Says:

May 7, 2012 - What kind of attack it is made to block?

dan194theman Says:

May 9, 2012 - it can also be a striking technique

DuskfallBand Says:

May 10, 2012 - I wonder which is the original true meaning. Would like to see a realistic bunkai.

dan194theman Says:

May 11, 2012 - One bunkai is blocking a body punch with one hand (lower hand) while the upper hand attacks the collarbone of the opponent

DuskfallBand Says:

May 11, 2012 - it might work, but I believe that a more efficient way to do this would be blocking with one hand (or maybe grabbing your opponent) and hitting the collar bone simultaniously with the other. Why the circular motion with both hands?

katy katy Says:

May 12, 2012 - very goo

halifaxsportkarate Says:

May 16, 2012 - haha my style is the same kata's but instead of the circles with the armsit's knife hand strikes :)
