Title: A Tale of Two Missions w/ Juan Williams (abridged)

Added: Jan 18, 2012

Author: eagfoundation

Duration: 28:56

Description:
"A Tale of Two Missions" -- a film by Juan Williams and Kyle Olson -- tells the story of competing cultures in American education through examples from Chicago. While the fight for school choice rages across the nation, perhaps no better example exists than that of the Windy City. Traditional alliances are breaking down. Both political parties are pushing for education reform and expanded school choice. The status quo is under attack, because most reasonable people understand that thousands of Chicago students are trapped in failing schools. But the education establishment, led by the radical Chicago Teachers Union, is not willing to give an inch to allow better choices for underserved students. And the union still has enough money, influence and legal standing to make reform efforts difficult to implement. The film features the Noble Street College Prep charter school and the amazing results its teachers and leaders are delivering for students and parents of Chicago. It also exposes the entrenched educational establishment bent on stifling school choice options and preserving its monopoly on state education dollars.Being released during National School Choice Week, the film runs approximately 35 minutes and is geared towards generating discussion about the role of our schools and what obstacles can be overcome when school culture is focused on student success rather than adult demands.

Jan 24, 2012 - I really appreciated this video, but would have liked more of a focus on voucher programs for parental choice for not just Charter Schools but Home Schooling or Private Schooling options.

Jan 24, 2012 - The thing that I like about Juan Williams is that he's an Honest Liberal; willing to look for the truth despite the Left/Right divide that holds too many hostage.

IKeepRight Says:

Jan 24, 2012 - follow the money. Get Unions out of education.

Jan 25, 2012 - I'm a white Conservative, but Juan Williams (a black Liberal) is one of my heroes. He's one of the bravest Americans of our time. His book "Enough" is fantastic, because of his willingness to say the hard truth to black Americans, and this video is along the same lines.Juan Williams is about the truth, and is willing to say and act on it. Our country would be better off if others would follow his lead: Liberals, Conservatives, and most important the apathetic majority who turn a blind eye.

Jan 27, 2012 - Juan Williams, this is journalism at its best!

Jan 28, 2012 - Thank you Juan, it was a pleasure listening to you and Dick Morris discussing both of your views about competition for schools, merit pay, virtual schooling and vouchers. My wife and I liked what you said about "Keep your eye on the prize". Hope you and Dick enjoyed your visit to Deerfield Beach/Boca Raton...Please come back soon...As for Mr. Morris, we know he likes "wintering" down here and he's always welcome. Thanks also to Slade OBrien from Americans for Prosperity+ the Hilton.

Jan 28, 2012 - Is it by accident, or careful PR, that only supportive comments are posted? Rahm has a strangle hold on the media already. The charter schools are under-performing. He's using the charters as incentives for his political backers.

BondJames1961 Says:

Jan 28, 2012 - Chicago, wake up! Read nytimes.com/2012/01/15/us/a-lifetime-of-close-ties... Rahm is using and abusing our most vulnerable citizens for his politics of displacement. Don't be sheep. You must know that charter school teachers are less qualified, have a terrible turn-over rate, and are not producing decent "scores," let alone strong thinkers. Rahm's use of charters is just dodging his responsibility and enriching his campaign buddies. CPS parent, CPS teacher, CTU member. Bond, James Bond.

Jan 28, 2012 - These people are dressed the same AND will act the same. When did education start teaching socialism? Be the same..don't be leaders or independent thinkers! Scary.. so much a reminder of Hitlers youth. Easy..NO HAND OUTS!! Socialism is not an answer!! Good idea without the socialistic approach! But then..you have a public school system ..:/

janshaw22 Says:

Jan 28, 2012 - ... inherited a A dis-functional school system... And Arne Duncan the former head of the Chicago school system, now is the secretary of education in the USA.... Let's get rid of the department of education - it promotes more bureaucracy. Results are coming in charter school with less bureaucracy.

themanda1991 Says:

Jan 29, 2012 - Thank you so much for your information about schools. School choice is such an important issue - the politicians and many teachers do not enroll their children in public schools - what does that tell you? We need choice - the system needs improvement and now.

classicrocker79 Says:

Jan 29, 2012 - Thank you, Juan - for such a fantastic piece of reporting!!!!!!! And on such a controversial subject! I support school choice and you make a very compelling case! Thank you!!!!!!!

Jan 30, 2012 - Unlike the Chicago Teachers Union, we welcome all opinions.

Maymuna33 Says:

Feb 1, 2012 - Thank you for telling this story. I was the speaker @ the Charter Schools Day of Action. I am a parent of 3 charter school students and i feel that parents are being given misinformation about charter schools and its not fair to the kids or parents. Our children deserve the best education possible. So many kids in Chicago are being short changed due to adults argueing over money. Save the kids! Teach the Kids! Parents: step up and demand better. You have a choice! Charters Work. Thank you Juan!

educationow Says:

Feb 20, 2012 - And what is Noble's graduation rate?COUNTING EVERY FRESHMAN THAT WALKS IN THE DOOR WHO GO ON TO GRADUATE

CyberSpaceman81 Says:

Mar 13, 2012 - As a conservative who wants further integration for minorities who has now heard Louis Farrakan's anti Semitic words recently at UC Berkley, I must say to all minorities, us fellow Americans need to do better on things. We can get "School Choice" done and empower young minority kids to be prosperous integrated AMERICANS and not empowered "Blacks" as some wish for. Even those of regular agenda politics who are filled with "White privilege" arguments are insulting themselves out of integration.

TheFrustratedTeacher Says:

Mar 30, 2012 - This video is actually filled with erroneous information. Bummer Juan chooses to read words written for him without ever finding out if they are true.
