Title: THELMA & CHARLEY: WOTTA PAIR! (1 of 3)
Added: Jan 22, 2010
Author: northbreed1
Duration: 9:57
Description:
[PLEASE READ] Presenting the "darb" and the "bard" of comedy at Hal Roach Studios in the 1930s.This is the first video in a series of three. The trio will feature clips from eight of the eleven short-film appearances teaming Charley Chase with Thelma Todd. This is vintage "Roach comedy." These are gifted performers. Mr. Chase is energetic, playful, "a little bit foxy," and an inspired troubadour. Miss Todd is cute, curvy, principled, witty, and gloriously feminine. Neither lived to "a grand old age," but the sparkling personalities of both lady and gentleman imperishably** linger on in the countless comedies they made—individually and together—in Hollywood in the 1920s and 1930s.IMPORTANT: This is a video of goodwill and admiration. Questions or comments are sincerely welcome—but only if they are nice, clean, and comprehendible. If you are a professional and prefer that I delete this video, please contact me and it will promptly be done.Essential website: http://www.charley-chase.com/Remarkable website: http://www.looserthanloose.com/Thelma Todd: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0865298/Charley Chase: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0153713/Instrumental music credits: the accomplished Beau Hunks Orchestra can be heard--in excerpts--playing various Leroy Shield compositions.**I presume film preservation of their work will continue! (For these videos, I wish the prints I had to work with themselves had been restored.)

Nov 10, 2010 - That's Bettymae and Beverly Crane, Hal Roach's "talking titles" during the 1930-'31 period, at the beginning...

Nov 3, 2011 - Thelma Todd's untimely death was a real loss. She was so very beautiful, talented, and, let's face it, so very sexy! She's one of the comparatively rare women from the early talkie era who's a real turn on! Watching her always makes me feel better!

Nov 28, 2011 - Does anybody know where to buy some of Chase's Hal Roach talkies? (other than "on the wrong trek"). And some Thelma Todd/Zasu Pitts shorts?
3nails3days1way Says:
Dec 30, 2011 - I'd love to know where to get all the full shorts of Thelma and Charley. Also of Thelma and Zasu.
