Aug 2, 2011 - I have a theory that this song is about the band tokin' up. "I Get By" is a play on words for "I Get High." The comparison is made more obvious in The Beatles song "With a Little Help from My Friends" when Ringo says both "I get by" and "I get high with a little help from my friends" in the chorus. The dramatic change in tempo at the middle of the song represents when they've actually smoked since time seems slower for them.
