Title: The Pink Floyd at the BBC 1967 - The Scarecrow

Added: Sep 25, 2008

Author: limpidgreen07

Duration: 2:27

Description:
This alternate version of the Syd Barrett penned tune "The Scarecrow" was recorded at the BBC Playhouse Theatre on September 25, 1967. This recording was made for the BBC radio program "Top Gear" and was broadcast on Sunday, October 1, 1967. "The Scarecrow" was the B-side of the Floyd's second single "See Emily Play" and was featured on The Pink Floyd's first album, "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn"I used clips of outtakes from the Scarecrow promo film as well as some of the better quality footage I could find of the official promo film.

knickd1979 Says:

Feb 10, 2010 - this song, perhaps more than any other, sort of foreshadowed barrett himself didn't it? standing alone and still. unable to escape from the endless breeze as it sneakily steals the straw that made him what he is. the straw is not gone, however, as the wind is not "unkind". the staw is instead possessed by nature from which it came and eventually finds a home. syd's "straw" would and continues to spread. did bits of his straw end up in another scarecrow?

Jul 23, 2010 - Many thanks for supplying this version of The Pink Floyd, and more notably, Syd Barrett song. I've never heard this version before now. The song has always reminded me of belonging to a chapter of an animated film on faery folk with its visual and playful lyrics. Barrett's Floyd tunes always hearkened back to childhood times, as in the song Matilda Mother.

Mar 27, 2012 - Notice how Syd hangs back from the camera? That's his ambivalence right there. You see it in some group photos too. He'll peer over a band mates shoulder, for example.
