Apr 11, 2012 - hi!!! plz help me out!! can u tell me if it is absolutely necessary to use compression on a song? because when i use a compressor, the voice texture and overall dynamics suffer a lot...is there a better alternative? and is there a way to make the song sound good without using compression?

Apr 11, 2012 - I don't know if I'd call the mixing in Nashville "cutting edge", but yes it would be nice to hear another genre for examples.

Apr 15, 2012 - Hell yeah...I can't believe he thinks its a good vocal to start with! It's Auto tuned to hell...I forced myself to watch this in it's entirety. Truth be told... you can't polish a turd, no matter how many plugins you want to add to it..

Apr 16, 2012 - I mix a lot of songs, and I understand the video, you are explaining something that only makes sense to people that get it, if that makes sense.. haha... take care! I find myself using the dangerous bax eq on vocals, and using the high end cut it does a very interesting thing to the high end, then run it through a manley mu, and it is a wrap... usually eq, plug.. Dangerous bax, then manley.. great video..

Apr 16, 2012 - I think your grammer speaks for itself. Once you manage to get a better grasp on the English language, I'll consider more seriously your opinion on the value of lyrics.Of course quality recording engineers are vital in making a good song sound it's best, but if you're trying to convince me that art is the ultimate goal, and "Shawty you's a weirdo" is the extent of your creativity, then I worry about the state of our "artists".

Apr 24, 2012 - THIS IS OK, BUT MY METHOD IS THE NEW METHOD AND THE ONLY METHOD LOL, IVE EVEN HAD A ENGINEER FROM BERKLY TELL ME THAT THE WAY I MIX VOCALS ARE UNORTHADOX, BUT THE RESULTS ARE A MILLION DOLLAR RECORDING---I USE RECORD, PROPELLER HEADS BETA VERSION FOR REASON 6 AND THERE ARE NO BUGS IT HAS A SSL MASTER COMP ON IT!!!!
Deandre Virgil Says:
Apr 24, 2012 - DONT WORRY I WILL DO A VIDEO ON HOW I TRACK AND RECORD, PLUS MIX DOWNS COMPRESSION, PRE-AMPS, AND EQ'ing

Apr 25, 2012 - Great video. I am a self taught artist/engineer. Now I have tried many techniques for mastering learning as I go for over 10 years. What Ive learned is with an experienced artist and a good engineer mixed with the right equipment compression is sometimes unwarranted and electronic sounding depending on the person, Myself in particular. What do you people out there think? If it sounds perfect without one should I really bother adding one and risk destroying the vocals integrity?
chad200387 Says:
Apr 25, 2012 - P.S my comment refers to mixing an individual vocal track. I ALWAYS add compression to the master track. Advice would be great!

Apr 26, 2012 - It's called the music "business" for a reason. Altruism is not a good business model.
Pulse2AM Says:
Apr 26, 2012 - If you're referring to mixing the vocal and adding compression some just ride the fader others compress the hell out of it. For rock compression can really help, for a singer song writer maybe just riding the fader would be best.
iigunzent Says:
Apr 26, 2012 - what I've learned in my years...compression is always useful...on each individual track. it's up to preference & the individual range you're going for as to how much you use. My chain is just an Avalon 737 into the board and I find that with the avalon I don't really have to use very much compression afterwards to get the sound I want. My advice, Start off light and adjust from there as necessary.
