Teachers don't strike every chance they get as they're balloted about strike action a lot more than you probably realize and most nearly always vote against it. Most (competent) teachers care about their pupils and want them to do well and to not miss teaching them classes. There have been more strikes than usual this past year because the government are royally screwing over teachers (and other public sector workers).

I have lived with a few teachers (primary and secondary), and they were as thick as shit, the fact that they were teaching kids was almost funny. But it isn't funny. This new regulation to be able to get rid of under performing teachers quicker must have come in for a reason: think about it.

I do have to agree with you though that there are a ridiculous amount of thick as shit teachers out there. I've definitely been taught by a few, but I've also been taught by some amazing people. Personally, assuming teachers are more likely to be the 'thick as shit' type is just a little too pessimistic and depressing for me.
