Description:
Faye Wong's live performance in her 2003 concert in Hong KongMany thanks to Ohoh for providing this clip!Although faye wong has turned down the Olympic Committee's invitation, i still think she's the most suitable candidate for the 2008 olympic song

Dec 19, 2010 - who is we wei? she's the world's most popular singer? hahah

kngrtk Says:

Jan 4, 2011 - @TimTimato, you're really discounting Debbie Harry here. She isn't any ordinary western singer. Listen to her in "Shayla", "Union City Blues", "Atomic" & tell me that those vocals aren't divine.

TimTimato Says:

Jan 5, 2011 - I'm a Debbie Harry fan too, but my point is when these artists are known for certain songs, covers are usually not as good as the original. All I'm saying is that although Faye Wong can't sing this as well as Harry, the reverse would apply too. Have you heard "I'm Willing" by Faye Wong? Debbie is a great singer but her vocals would not match Faye's for that particular song (as well as many of Faye's other songs).

kngrtk Says:

Jan 5, 2011 - 'Heart of Glass' doesn't depict all of Deb's vocal ranges. I'd heard "I'm Willing" and I think the only reason why DH can't cover it is because she isn't fluent in Chinese and thus, won't know how to sing the song with the correct intonations & linguistic emphasis. I think you may be referring more to Linda Ronstadt, who despite being a great singer, has a niche in R&B and can't cover intra-genres like Ms Harry. If DH studied Chinese for a few yrs, who knows, perhaps a virtuoso?

Jan 7, 2011 - see u faye in hong kong~2011-3-6

TimTimato Says:

Jan 8, 2011 - I know "Heart of Glass" doesn't depict her vocal range, but I'm quite familiar with her work as well as her live performances and I don't think that even at her peak she her voice could go as high or be as clear as Faye's. Faye has a very distinct voice quality that other Asian singers cannot come close to. Also, they both have their own style that is extremely difficult to replicate. I mean, I can easily say that Faye Wong could never sing "Call Me" - it would be a disastrous joke.

kngrtk Says:

Jan 9, 2011 - Fair enough, I guess we're at a stand still since I don't believe most western singers can match Ms Harry either.

kngrtk Says:

Jan 9, 2011 - I guess to prove my virtuoso theory, DH would have needed to study Mandarin & Cantonese for 6+ years, get the vib for how the words convey their respective emotions. Then get into her zone and go for it. I suspect that she'd do really well and probably even blow away many HK listeners since she's a quantum level above her peers like P Benatar, L Ronstadt, S Nicks, K Carnes, & JJett. And on the flipside, she could also try some metal and perhaps give Ozzy & Dio a run for their money.

TimTimato Says:

Jan 9, 2011 - Not only is Deb better than her peers but compared to "stars" today, she's beyond legendary. You said she's better than Stevie Nicks, which she is, but even Stevie Nicks was WAY better than the kids today. She sang with fuckin' passion. Did you hear Lindsay Lohan try to cover Edge of Seventeen at the AMAs? (2005). Well, there are some stars today who are talented (Leona Lewis), but still sound stale like a studio product. And then there are others like Rihanna who just suck.

kngrtk Says:

Jan 9, 2011 - Being made to listen to Lohan should be a war crime. As for DH, well, I guess the US is suffering, since there's no one quite like her today. As for the staid studio product, I concur, that's the bane of today's times. It's good to hear that Deb's generally appreciated. I believe there's also a Korean re-mix of 'Maria' which was quite popular in Asia.

Jan 22, 2011 - NO originality, just an exact copy of the original. Better just to listen to Blondie.

Nov 5, 2011 - Faye Wong is very good. Debbie Harry is very good. Covers are fun! So - chill down - singing is not a competition. Actually I think this version added interesting stuff. It has a more locomotion steamroller type of movement. I like it. And I like the visuals. And both girls are nice to look at in their own ways.
