Mar 16, 2012 - "Except NONE of the US media railed against the war"The media didn't? So Fox News, often being accused of being a tool of the right wing, wasn't really any different than the other networks? I'd say you're a bit off, but maybe you can explain this to me in greater detail. "walk the walk"Sad you just dismiss my point without giving it thought. If the prerequisite to having any opinion on a given subject is to also be fully engaged in that cause, then the majority of us wouldn't...
regelemihai Says:
Mar 16, 2012 - ...have legitimate grounds for asserting anything. Too bad you missed that first time I had mentioned it. Because if it is right, a(wilthy rich) liberal cannot support welfare unless and until he given away the majority of his wealth to the government. Does that sound logical to you? By the same token, to support war doesn't mean you yourself have to enlist in the army. It's total hogwash. "he is no pet dog "True, just a supporter of criminals and terrorists. That is what I was refering to.
BonuxCouleur Says:
Mar 16, 2012 - none of the US media ever investigated the elements presented by the US and UK government to justify this war. In other words, you had Fox News that took side for GW Bush actions, and the rest (NBC, ABC, CBS, etc) who did not take side but never questioned the reasons for going to war either. All the fake elements (satellite photos, reports and so on) they chosed to broadcast, they took for granted. US journalism rarely collides with the power in place (think JFK's assassination)
BonuxCouleur Says:
Mar 16, 2012 - "True supporter of criminals and terrorists" right like GW Bush father who financed the Nazi war effort against his own country and you elected his great son who never managed to catch one terrorist under his mandate. Oh wait a minute, it is under GW Bush that the French secret service (under Jacques Chirac command) warned the FBI of imminent terrorist threats on your homesoil. That was right before 9/11. The very same guy you elected ignored ALL warnings from France.
BonuxCouleur Says:
Mar 16, 2012 - you wrote "if the prerequisite to having any opinion on a given subject is to also be fully engaged in that cause, then the majority of us wouldn't..." it's not Degeneres' opinion about war that bothered me, it's the bald statement that all French people are dogs for not agreeing with her opinion at the time. When Degeneres chosed to join the French bashing trend, besides being opportunistic, she joined and promoted a mass process where the intelligence of individuals is dismissed.
BonuxCouleur Says:
Mar 16, 2012 - the prerequisite to have an opinion is to think as an individual. There was no individual thinking process in the bandwagon effect of French bashing. Therefore, there was no opinion. In the bandwagon effect, the only one who has an opinion is the leader who starts the effect. Degeneres did not think out of he blue "oh yeah French are dogs for not invading Iraq" it was a manipulation of the collective mind by the government in place and only individual thinking could question it.
BonuxCouleur Says:
Mar 16, 2012 - If I ask you to chose (sounds like an opinion) between Red and Blue your collective mind will pick either Red or Blue, while your individual mind might think Yellow or Green. Only you were not given the choice of these two colours at first place, you were given the impression of having an opinion. Intelligence is when one learns to distinguish an impression from an opinion. The choice for Degeneres was: are you pro-war/anti-French or against-war/pro-French? This is called a manipulation of mass.
regelemihai Says:
Mar 16, 2012 - "satellite photos, reports and so on"Simplifying a very complex process by syaing tah tit all came down to some satellite photos, but nontheless, if the majortiy of the mainstream media did not support the anti-war crowd, then where did all of the Bush bashing and anti Iraq war rallies come from? They were propagated by some form of media. It didn't happen in a vaccum. "The very same guy you elected ignored ALL warnings from France"Warnings came from many sources, not least of which...
regelemihai Says:
Mar 16, 2012 - ...was the Mosad. But that doesn't take away from the fact that Chirac was who he was. That's not to indict all of the French people. It's wrong to lump them all in to one group. On that at least we agree. "process in the bandwagon effect of French bashing"Correct, not denying it.I'm not supporting French bashing,if that's what you think. I'm not gonna contradict any of the things tyou said in relations to this, because that wasn't my objection to begin with.On this one point we both agree.
BonuxCouleur Says:
Mar 17, 2012 - "a very complex process" (...) there was nothing complex about the invasion of Iraq, the only complex element about it is the consequences of the invasion. Iraq is certainly more of a terrorist state today than it was before. You have more islamist (foreign) groups in Iraq today than there was under Saddam Hussein's dictatorship. By the way, do your media still broadcast news about Iraq, the daily bombings et al? Warnings came from many sources including France. No one listened.
BonuxCouleur Says:
Mar 17, 2012 - my point is you're calling Chirac a supporter of terrorists when the French Secret Services have given all the info required to avoid a situation like 9/11.As an American, did not ask yourself how convenient an invasion of Iraq would be should America be attacked on its homesoil? It is no secret GW Bush always wanted to invade Iraq since his father's presidency. In order to do so, a strong signal was needed for the US citizens to approve it. So, who's the supporter of terrorism?
BonuxCouleur Says:
Mar 17, 2012 - GW Bush & Co (Wolfowitz-Cheney-Rumsfeld-Powell-Rice) probably never expected something as terrible as 9/11 but they needed that spark for the invasion of Iraq to happen. Sometimes you should look at the ennemy from the inside. You were blinded with the idea that the French were not to be trusted when in reality France and Germany played a role so to avoid what became 9/11 and opposed GW Bush & Co. Hence the propaganda set by the new conservatives against the "Old Europe".
regelemihai Says:
Mar 17, 2012 - " the daily bombings et al?"No, not much. Many still want to mask the result of their policies. " but they needed that spark for the invasion"No, not really. Actually most of the world at that time feared Saddam actually had WMDs. The security council resolution promoting an intervention passed with 15-0 vote. Like I said, you're oversimplifying a complicated scenario. Many liberals choose to take the easy conspiracy theory road in place of doing serious research. I'd encourage you..
regelemihai Says:
Mar 17, 2012 - ...to think these issues through beyond what seems to suit your inclination. I did it myself, and ended up rejecting a lot of what I believed in the past. Also, I'm not an American.

Mar 16, 2012 - "Chirac political bent" ??? Well maybe you have a problem of perspective, Chirac was the French President, not a US senator or congressman, he did not owe GW Bush, he is no pet dog like Tony Blair. France disapproved with the reasons for war and from there Dominique de Villepin made his speech before the United Nations. The French government and people did not take kindly on the fake satellite photos and reports stolen to students. You respect your allies, you do not bully them.
