Jan 24, 2012 - This song sounds so much better sung in an Irish accent, either Liam or Shane McGowan, both great!

Feb 4, 2012 - This for me , is the definitive version of Eric Bogle's song. The emotion that Liam puts across whilst singing is amazing, You would think he was actually singing about his own experience of war.R.I.P Liam and all the other great balladeers that have left us.

Feb 6, 2012 - I'm 35 now, but as young child, when this song came on the radio, it always made me stop and listen . (Back then I thought Matilda was a girl) ....Liam sings this the best, in my opinion.

Feb 7, 2012 - This is still happening ... people losing their legs in unnecessary wars. One of the board members of my church-- his son lost both legs below the knee in Iraq. Lost legs for nothing, except to appease GW Bush's desire to reward his rich friends with access to oil extraction.

Feb 10, 2012 - Does indeed sound like Liam is singing about his own personal experience in the war! A truly breathtaking performance that leaves all other versions in the dust....Anyone not becoming emotionally involved in this rendition has not heart!
