Feb 27, 2012 - @blueticecho Hahahahahaha!! All I can do is laugh at people like you. Lol!

GlennKidd Says:

Feb 27, 2012 - Brian Wilson is a musical genius. Pet Sounds & SMiLE are masterpieces.

pluginhoney Says:

Feb 28, 2012 - I think everyone knows Mike has only been in it for the money and riding the nostalgia gimmick for decades now. He doesn't care about art or music nearly as much as wringing dry the Beach Boys name, and although he should be scorned for dismissing Pet Sounds and probably ruining Smile and Brian's confidence in his own music, it's his revisionist and take-credit-for-everything bullshit that should be scorned even more. He's just extremely unlikable.

galoon Says:

Feb 28, 2012 - Mike wasn't jealous; he really did hate the lyrics. I think his concerns about a change of direction were valid; an established act is taking a risk by deviating from the formula to this degree--it might work; it might not. They didn't have the benefit of hindsight like we do. Having said that, Brian did the right thing by growing and expanding musically--the public's tastes were changing, and Pet Sounds & Smile were his answer to that.

Mar 2, 2012 - Yeah, apparently Brian said it ("the tapes were destroyed") in '99, but a year later said, "the tapes are in a safe place" lol. (Maybe some of the MIXDOWNS were destroyed.)I wonder to what extent the proliferation of SMiLE outtake bootlegs--and such popular compilations as the "Purple Chick" version of SMiLE--available on the internet served as a motivating factor in the release of this masterpiece? Maybe I'll know more after watching the rest of these great videos.

Mar 24, 2012 - Brian, please let me love you.

DanCiTi Says:

Apr 5, 2012 - Mike didnt like that their music was doing something different, pretty simple. Ultimately it led to some of the best albums ever made, an essential piece to creating indie rock. A song like Vega-Tables back then may have been a pop oddity, but now in 2012 it would be an indie pop stroke of brilliance. Too bad they couldnt see it back then, & went forward with the direction established with this magnificent album. Luckily we have talented musicians today like Sufjan Stevens to carry that torch.

galoon Says:

Apr 6, 2012 - I think that's all pretty much correct. Vegetables is a very interesting composition; totally unlike anything else done in the '60s or indeed today--by indie groups or otherwise. Same goes for the rest of the Smile album--Cabinessence is still my favorite from that one. Of course the earlier songs penned by Brian and Mike were more successful than many on Pet Sounds and what was salvaged from Smile, but today, Brian's newer material is generally more respected by critics.

Apr 6, 2012 - At 1:47 I almost thought he said "I know their gonna like it. This is gonna be a great Beach Boy album.. and sure enough when they got back to town, they blew my mind with their bullshit". LoL which is probably closer to the truth.

waialaebeach Says:

Apr 15, 2012 - I couldn't have said it better myself.

TheHolyMarshmallow Says:

Apr 23, 2012 - Guys, constantly kicking Mike Love isn't going to help anything. Sure, he did a lot of obnoxious stuff, but they're all getting along and touring together, and as glib as Mike's praises for the album may seem, capitalizing on any tensions between him and Brian Wilson will only, if anything, make it difficult for them all to get along. I'm glad to see the Beach Boys back together as they were (as much as possible by the laws of life and death, that is), and you all should be too.

Apr 27, 2012 - I NEED THIS ALBUM!! I'm crying and been waiting for this moment in history!!

DSDMovies Says:

Apr 29, 2012 - I liked the Brian WIlson version they released a few years ago, but the vocals (not Brian's, can't expect him to sound like he used to) were not as sweet as the Beach Boys. No one cold ever recreate their sound, Brian's band has a slight harshness to it, especially the opening track which really shoudl have been redone it's so harsh.

theSuperMetroid02 Says:

May 3, 2012 - Mike didn't write ANY of the lyrics on SMiLE, Brian has stated in a documentary on SMiLE that the number 1 reason he never finished it was Mike didn't like it, and I'm sure Brian only gets along with Mike now because he wants to put on one last tour/album for the good of the fans. Brian is a better artist and person than Mike will ever be

theSuperMetroid02 Says:

May 3, 2012 - What do you listen to then? Hannah Montana?

blueticecho Says:

May 3, 2012 - What I say is " I dislike all bad music and I like all good music "

flipponzin24 Says:

May 4, 2012 - A blessing it is to have this album available! I can't wait to listen to the SMiLE sessions for this upcoming summer!

Aggromerchant Says:

May 17, 2012 - Maybe it's time to let bygones be bygones. If my family can do it...Does Al Jardine now look a bit like Steve Howe?
