BlackVoicesOnFilm Says:

Mar 15, 2012 - There was drama behind the scenes with Good Times. John Amos and Esther Rolle didn't like the direction of the show and in particular, they didn't like the buffoonery of the JJ Character. Like Family Matters, it was at first a show about an AA family, then it revolved around a buffoon character. John & Esther fought with producers. John & Esther wanted the JJ Character to stop being so foolish which isn't surprising since both John & Esther lived through the civil right movement as adults.

BlackVoicesOnFilm Says:

Mar 15, 2012 - White men wrote the script on ALL of the black shows. Good Times, What's Happening, The Cosby Show etc. I remember seeing a rerun of Good Times as a kid & Thelma said something about how she left a chicken wing in the fridge and wanted to know who ate it. Something about that joke didn't sound right to me & I started doing some research and paying attention to names. Most of the writers were white, seemed to be mainly Jewish. Wasn't surpised to learn Jay Leno was a writer for the show.

Mar 19, 2012 - I remember being a child and being devastated when John Amos's character "James" was killed off. I could not understand and actually called the local affiliate to find out why.

Apr 30, 2012 - im a 43 year old white guy and i almost want to tear up at that scene just as i did when i first saw it on tv when i was little.white or black had nothing to do with it.they were in our home,we grew up together,it seemed they were family even though we never met them.

Rafael Medina Says:

MrMARYLOUWHO Says:

May 5, 2012 - i loved good times! I googled their names to get this video

Magic9053 Says:

May 8, 2012 - I'm BLACK and I loved Little house on the prairie, so you're right RACE dosen't matter when it comes to good TV, too bad we don't have that now.

LBPPUB2012 Says:

May 12, 2012 - I am also a white male. When people ask me what my favorite tv show is, I get different reactions when i say Good Times. It was funny without having to be vulgar. James Evans Sr. was/is the strongest father figure on tv. It lost much of its edge when he was killed off. I cry every time Florida breaks down at the end of The Big Move with her unforgetable,"Damn,Damn,Damn." The show also dealt with the issues of the day, at that time, such as inflation, gang violence, drug and alcohol abuse.

CreamyButta Says:

May 13, 2012 - I know RIGHT!!!!!!..... I HATE when people say their race because they like a RAP song or a black show.... It's just as bad as "i'm 12 and I like this song"....pink people are the BIGGEST consumers of rap music and it wasn't only the black americans who gave Good times their high ratings...by the way.... I'm Cuban and I love the Mary Tyler Moore show and Good Times.Be blessed.

Sheldonwh Says:

May 23, 2012 - He talks like a crack head, too. Bern Nadette (what a dumb way to spell a beautiful name) sounds intelligent and sane. He talks in rambling platitudes and sounds like a ghetto hustler trying to sound intelligent.
