Feb 11, 2012 - If this is 1963 Eric would have been 18. That's correct and he had already been with three different bands and came to the Yardbirds from a stint with the band Casey Jones and the Engineers.

Feb 17, 2012 - Hi there, saw your comment on Clapton having a pissy fit in1965. SO WERE YOU THERE OR IS THIS HERE SAY?. ~I was there, playing in The MoTiVaTioN, in the Gomelsky camp. There are no recordings of the Yardbirds with EC that remotely convey how they sounded live at the Crawdaddy, Marquee, Riki Tiki and all the other venues that supported the rhythm&blues movement in the UK. Feb 17, 2012 - I was at the recording of 5 LIVE YARDBIRDS at the Marquee Match 13, 1964, my birthday, and there was such disappointment when the crap recording was released. They did not sound like that! Seeing Clapton was our weekly pilgrimage away from the grey boredom of 60's London. It was a rebellion against the boring pop music generated by tin-pan-alley, and it was LOUD, energized and ours, even tho we borrowed the songs from black blues, we made them our own. BPB

Feb 17, 2012 - EC just up left theYardbirds, and we knew, hearing FOR YOU LOVE, that it was the only thing to do. Berne Williams of the Authentics still plays around the clubs of western France. Peter Beckett of the MoTiVaTioN continues putting on gigs in the city of LONDON to raise money for kids hospitals, THE PINK ELEPHANT PARTY. I could duet with Forest City Joe and hold my own. Not everyone can be a star. Eric proved, despite all his life's problems that that is was he is. Barry P Beckett

Feb 17, 2012 - EC joined the Yardbirds on the condition of staying with the roots. Which he has done. Beck like Page was a session guitarist with no affinity to blues. Gomelsky kept a contractual iron grip on his young bands and promised serious bad karma if they tried to leave. The Authentics disbanded rather than continue. Unkown today, they were, like EC & the YB'ds, a guide for us other bands.

Mar 23, 2012 - Pissy fit or not Mr. Clapton went on to be a indelible icon in the world of music. While the Yardbirds were a good band, they were merely a springboard for guitarists who would later become lasting legends in blues and rock. Beck, Clapton, Page all went on to form groups and solo careers that paled the Yardbirds. To this day the only Yardbirds tune to get regular airplay is "For Your Love", and that is limited to the oldies format lumped in with a mishmash of everything from doo wop to novely t

Mar 29, 2012 - Say what You will.. I love the Yardbirds. 'Shapes of Things" and "Happenings Ten Years Time Ago" are the best Singles ever recorded. To this Day, nothing comes close.

sprucetree49 Says:
Apr 2, 2012 - This is incorrect. The Yardbirds invented the sound that made Cream and Led Zeppelin possible. Ok, their guitarists had a lot to do with that. But it happened when they were with the Yardbirds and was a shared commitment. As far as 'regular airplay' is concerned, there are NO tunes by Howling Wolf or Muddy Waters that get regular airplay. So what!
sprucetree49 Says:
Apr 2, 2012 - you have to remember this was back before there were a hundred million guitar players with fifty types of pre-programmed distortion to choose from. Clapton's playing here is impressively incisive and fluent. I can see why the fans gravitated to him.
jamesanderson59 Says:
Apr 2, 2012 - Not incorrect. The Yardbirds extensively covered Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters and other blues giants who were innovators and spoke volumes for the culture and the times they lived in. The Stones started same the same way as did many other artists. In comparison to the Yardbirds, The Stones broke out of that mold and became innovators in their own rite. The Yardbirds however are famous for being the egg that hatched great performers. I'm not saying the Yardbirds are bad and do not have what would

Apr 14, 2012 - Read the recent false rapture/alien invasion prophecy from world renowned prophet Linda Newkirk.....very sobering warnings! It is going to happen when the economy has collapsed and wars break out between nations. Do not be deceived, it will be tempting to try and escape the chaos when preachers and televangelists tell you it is the return of Jesus.Chapter 78 Prophecies OrgAlso read what Jesus has to say about Obama....shocking revelations!

May 1, 2012 - correct me if I'm wrong, jimmy page left the yardbirds and started led zepplin, he had asked steve marriot from humble pie, small faces to be lead singer he refused, also the song humble pie does all your love which muddy waters also did before led zepplin, steve marriot was a great guitarist and vocals its amazing how similar marriot and plant sound.

Feb 4, 2012 - this was a really neat part of the 60's.Eric was lauded as the greatest guitar player in the world around 1970.some of his hook ups and solo efforts have been the best,i don't think he has the real blues of Beck.Beck just gets into your head and Clapton just plays a really great guitar.
