Mar 24, 2012 - Dear TL,I am glad you looked it up on wikipedia; but try the book and you'll be hooked on the whole story of the Truce and try other histories. I recommend Yanks by John S.D. Eisenhower

Apr 21, 2012 - Love this vid! Look closely & you'll see a cameo by John Lennon; he plays the German who shook hands with Paul. Such a shame...he was dead 2 years later. Also look for George and Ringo, bot.h of which are living in the trenches

Apr 26, 2012 - Just like Hitler took the majority of Europe and achieved all of his foreign policy without a shot being fired, Expansionism is not always about war, Britain also took Australia without a shot bein fired, i understand your point and agree with you to an extent but don't talk bollocks

BeatlesRock1969 Says:

May 1, 2012 - this is an incredibly disgusting POV, i honestly don't know how you got thumbed up!War is necessary?see, if there wasn't war in the first place there would be no nazis, solution to evil isn't necessarily evil; look at Gandhi, freed a whole nation only through NON VIOLENCE; same concept applies to MLK, or Malcolm X; peace and freedom are so easy to reach if you're willing to, and saying "war is necessary" isn't the way i can assure you. You should be ashamed for what you said. Make love not war.

May 8, 2012 - Thinking a thought inspired by several YOUTUBERS efforts to share PEACE on earth & by obvious spreading global violence thats getting very scary. WHAT IF, all over earth billions, every day, AT NOON, we held up 2 fingers - "Y" - & gave earth the PEACE SIGN for a few seconds every noon as a global unity peace moment shared of love rather than the hate "the violent" want us to share violently towards others. I SHARE --- PEACE --- WITH YOU. love from Ronnie C. SeCoy!

May 12, 2012 - I wouldn't say it was really pointless, I mean Germany was just defending herself. Building up to World War I Russian and German tensions were extremely high. Germany and Austria were allies and Austria started bombing Serbia (which I will say was unnecessary) and to defend Serbia Russia mobilized her army. Now here is where it gets a little muddy. Germany was scared that if Russia defeated Austria she would try and attack Germany, which would cause them to be surrounded on all sides by enemies.

metspanthers notredamefan Says:

May 12, 2012 - If Germany was surrounded on all sides by enemies then a war would be unavoidable because the people of France were constantly urging their government to go to war on Germany to avenge the loss of the Franco-Prussian War. If France attacked Germany then Russia would likely attack because they were an ally of the French. However Germany knew that if it attacked Russia then France would attack as well, so there would be a war on two fronts. So they in-acted the schliefen plan.

metspanthers notredamefan Says:

May 12, 2012 - The goal of the schliefen plan was to defeat France before the Russian army could mobilize then they wouldn't have to worry about a war on two fronts. In the end the German's were trying to prevent a scenario in which their country would be destroyed. Germany is always made out to be the bad guys of World War I but I wouldn't say that, I would say the real culprits of this war were the Austrians. So the war wasn't pointless for everybody, Germany, France and Russia all had real reasons to fight.

Lulzalutioners Says:

May 12, 2012 - Alright, I thank you for your quick summary. Although I knew that Germany was not really a culprit. In reality I think it's a bit hard to point at a single country and say it was a culprit, perhaps the leadership of the country, but in essence anthropomorphising countries can be a mistake. Although, you would agree that in essence the war was somewhat of a loss for everyone.

metspanthers notredamefan Says:

May 13, 2012 - I think you could point to Serbia or Austria. A bad group of Serbian's did kill a powerful Austrian leader however Austria over reacted. It wasn't the Serbian government who killed the Austrian it was an assassin. Serbia did refuse to hand over the assassin though. However even though Serbia met the ultimatum (whichcomprised a lengthy list of demands made upon the Serbian government) Austria began bombing Serbia.

metspanthers notredamefan Says:

May 13, 2012 - The culprit is the Austrian leaders who should have fully understood that bombing Serbia would cause each countries allies to get involved resulting in a chain of events leading to WWI. I wouldn't say it was a loss for everyone. Many of the countries were just protecting themselves and it turned out better then what would have occurred if they had allowed themselves to be stomped on.

metspanthers notredamefan Says:

May 13, 2012 - You forget that countries citizens back then (and even now) often demanded war.

Angelina Swales Says:
