Title: 3.3.3 Atheism: A History of God (Part 1)

Added: Jan 7, 2011

Author: Evid3nc3

Duration: 15:1

Description:
I explain how I learned from A History of God by Karen Armstrong that the evidence indicates that the Jewish concept of monotheism evolved from the syncretism of various polytheistic sources like Canaanite and Babylonian polytheism.Books and Concepts:A History of God: The 4,000-Year Quest of Judaism, Christianity and Islam:http://www.amazon.com/History-God-000-Year-Judaism-Christianity/dp/0345384563Well-sourced Wikipedia articles describing the evolution of Jewish monotheism from polytheism:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_ancient_Israel_and_Judah#Religionhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monotheism#Origin_and_developmenthttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yahweh#Early_history_of_Yahweh-worshipEnuma Elish:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/En%C3%BBma_Eli%C5%A1Library of Ashurbanipal:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Library_of_AshurbanipalCanaanite Religion:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canaanite_religionDid Jewish Slaves Build the Pyramids?:http://skeptoid.com/episodes/4191Taanach Cult Stand:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yahweh#DevelopmentIsrael Enters Recorded History in Egypt at 1200 BCE:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_ancient_Israel_and_Judah#Iron_Age_IJeremiah's Monolatrist Polytheism:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queen_of_heaven_(Antiquity)#Hebrew_Bible_referencesExodus Renaming by P verified in The Bible with Sources Revealed:http://www.amazon.com/Sources-Revealed-Richard-Elliott-Friedman/dp/0060530693--All excerpts used in this video are either copyright-free or covered under "fair use" in Title 17 § 107 of the USC, including:The Prince of Egypt:http://www.amazon.com/Prince-Egypt-Val-Kilmer/dp/B00000JGOQVector Attributions:A huge thanks to Snap2Objects for the many businessmen vectors I use:http://www.snap2objects.com/freebies/Iron Age Israel and Judah:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Kingdoms_of_Israel_and_Judah_map_830.svgCloaked Israelite Women:http://all-silhouettes.com/super-girls/Gods and Israelites of War:http://all-silhouettes.com/fighting-people/Tiamat:http://all-silhouettes.com/vector-oriental-dragons/Asherah and Baal:http://all-silhouettes.com/jumping-people/Israelites:http://all-silhouettes.com/miscsilhouettesofpeople/Sun:http://greeengirl.deviantart.com/art/free-simbols-sun-81174695?q=boost:popular+in:resources/vector+sun+vector&qo=9Clouds:http://all-silhouettes.com/vector-clouds/Plants:http://www.vecteezy.com/Flowers/127-13-Free-Vector-Foliage-Ornaments-Pack-01Babies:http://browse.deviantart.com/resources/?q=baby#/d1cnta1Ares:http://browse.deviantart.com/resources/vector/?q=ares#/d2b8aaiDeuteronomy Flourishes:http://all-silhouettes.com/vector-flourishes/Blood:http://www.vecteezy.com/Spills-Splatters/15375-Free-Splatter-Vector-SetPaint Splatters:http://www.vecteezy.com/Spills-Splatters/466-Vector-SplattersImage Attributions:Badlands:http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:2003-08-15_Badlands_National_Park_small_buttes.jpgHeaven:http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Sky_between_cloud_layers.jpegBabylonian Tablet:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Venus_Tablet_of_Ammisaduqa.jpgBabylonian Exile:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jewish_history#Babylonian_captivityBaal Epic:http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Baal_epic_mp3h8930.jpghttp://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Baal_epic_mp3h8950.jpg--Music:"Saladin" by Harry Gregson-Williams"Saladin" remixed by Hybrid.

May 18, 2012 - 3. And it's plain stupid because it destroys the point of Yahwists altering it atall. They don't earn for Yahweh by changing the scriptures so they worship El, Adonia AND Yahweh. There was evidently no inherent Yahwist bias in the writings of the bible.

TheColaGoodfellow Says:

May 18, 2012 - The more I look into history and the Hebrew and Greek languages, the more I tire of atheists lazy and context less claims.Sure, some theists are like that too with things, but still.

TheLalaGOD Says:

May 18, 2012 - and what is your conclusion? outline your logical argument please...Premise 1:.......?Premise 2:.......?Conclusion......?

TheLalaGOD Says:

May 19, 2012 - "but it still doesn't disprove God because everything is made of his will power"Can you prove that?

10thAngel Says:

May 19, 2012 - I got a language lesson for you:"Well as a Christian" translates into "Well as a hypocritical asshole"

TheColaGoodfellow Says:

May 19, 2012 - P1: Choice is the ability to select out of multiple possibilities. It's the ability to decide an outcome.P2: The only thing deciding what is not possible is nature itself. C: Nature is capable of choice."Can you prove that?"1. Choice is free will and will power.2. The laws of nature as we experience them are the result of choice.C. The laws of nature are the result of unlimited willpower.

TheColaGoodfellow Says:

May 19, 2012 - 2.PS. the second argument in my last comment was a reply to your second comment, to when I said "everything is made of his will power".It's true that religion isn't as provable as the existance of a God itself. There few ways I could prove to you that the Biblical God is the same one that is evidential in reality. But the reason I believe Christianity isn't merely blind faith, the Bible (The New testament most notably) is one of if not the best documented collection of religious writings.

May 20, 2012 - if the god of the bible is (real) he does not even deserve my respect much less my worship!!He is a complete and total ASS

Tryzon Says:

May 21, 2012 - Hear, hear. I like to quote Matt Dillahunty on this topic: "Any god being who would be deserving of anything *like* worship wouldn't want it."

LauderdaleBaptist Says:

May 22, 2012 - bunch of lies

BlueRonin44 Says:

May 23, 2012 - For those that don't want to read through all the comments, let me sum up the argument from Theists posting here: *sticks fingers in ears* LA LA LA LA NO IT DOESN'T LA LA LA LA!!!

TheLalaGOD Says:

May 25, 2012 - so you believe the god of Christianity although the teaching is immoral?

TheLalaGOD Says:

May 25, 2012 - P1: Choice is the ability to select out of multiple possibilities. It's the ability to decide an outcome. : There is no choice. Chemical reaction is not base on choice. P2: The only thing deciding what is not possible is nature itself because the nature has its properties.C: Nature is capable of choice. : Nature is not capable of choice...

TheLalaGOD Says:

May 25, 2012 - 1. Choice is free will and will power. : assertion and you don't provide any evidence2. The laws of nature as we experience them are the result of choice. ; No its not and again you just doing assertion3.C. The laws of nature are the result of unlimited willpower. First premise is an assertion with no evidence and therefore your conclusion is invalid...

May 26, 2012 - yep...This vid is pathetically twisting history & Xtianity, & blocking all it can = Zeitgeist -the Mindheist, part 200.

bellatrixthechicken Says:

May 26, 2012 - Nature doesnt decide anything. For something to decide something it needs to be conscious. Nature is not conscious.

markymarkbb Says:

May 27, 2012 - You can just smell the believers denying this saying its all a scam and this video is wrong every video like this has those comments

TheColaGoodfellow Says:

May 27, 2012 - "For something to decide something it needs to be conscious. Nature is not conscious."Based on the fact that all the laws of nature are self made, there is no other option other than them possessing choice. And because choice requries consciousness we can then conclude nature has consciousness also.

TheColaGoodfellow Says:

May 27, 2012 - "Choice is free will and will power. : assertion and you don't provide any evidence" Now you're ignoring the meaning of words. What is/isn't possible exists by nothing other than its own.... fill in the gap, it doesn't matter what word you put there, if it's completely self sustaining, which nature is, then it has something exactly identical to choice or free will.

bellatrixthechicken Says:

May 27, 2012 - why do the laws of nature need to be made? perhaps they always existed and are transcendent of our reality?Or perhaps they came into being by chance or some autonomated process, with absolutely no "choice" whatsoever?

TheColaGoodfellow Says:

May 27, 2012 - Your first claim is something I agree with atleast to a degree. But even an automated process is still self driven. One thing everyone tends to forget, is that the human brain isn't the the only thing which light or sound reaches in the universe. Everything in the universe down to the smallest particle experiences "something", nothing is empty or hollow. But imagining the laws of nature as automated makes the universe seem like empty mathematics despite the fact that everything experiences.

LeonMire Says:

May 28, 2012 - Such an amazing explanation of the Documentary Hypothesis!
