I stated what I had read in Total Guitar magazine which in turn helped to form my opinion on what happened and I then stated that I don't agree with the negative comments towards EVH because of opinions based on a single performance. I am not the "Fanboy" that you make out me to be and I agree that something should have been done immediately.

The song Jump originally is in the key of "C" but the synthesizer intro for some reason is in the key of "C#", a half-step higher than the correct key. Somebody screwed up on the synths, solution would have been for Eddie to transpose but I guess it's pretty difficult. And yes this is a fail.

Apr 30, 2012 - Transposition isn't that hard for a good guitarist, my guess is Eddie has just been playing this song for so long it probably freaked him out. BUT- that's the beauty of live music, "you've got to roll with the punches!" And all the other instruments other than Eddie's guitar seem to be fine, so my guess is his guitar was probably out of tune. But, whatever the case- it DEFINITELY does sound like a train wreck!

May 3, 2012 - It sounds like it's out by a quarter tone or so, which means the correct key lies somewhere in between the proper fret and the next fret, making it nearly impossible to just shift/transpose without either a) stopping to retune, or b) bending every single note by an exact quarter tone in order to stay in tune. As a guitarist, I feel for him; not an easy predicament to be in.

May 9, 2012 - It's not the keyboard's fault. Ever since Sammy Hagar came into the band, the song was always played a semitone higher than the record live. Eddie simply has the wrong guitar (albeit very out of tune), and he tried to "fix" the tuning on the fly.The whole sample/playback theory is bull-shit, because if that happens, you get a key that's in between C and C#. The keyboard is playing exactly one semitone higher than the original key (and they played in C# during Sammy's era).

May 11, 2012 - It's definitely Eddie's guitar. Everyone else is in tune with the keyboard. (Brave to Dave for being able to sing in key under such circumstances!) And if Eddie was using a floyd rose, it'd be impossible to re-tune it. Why didn't he just grab another guitar really quick? (Poor people in the audience who had to endure that dissonance!!! I'd be pulling my hair out!)
