Title: Patagonia Video: Sonnie Trotter Climbs First Free Ascent...
Added: May 11, 2007
Author: patagoniavideo
Duration: 11:35
Description:
June, 2006, Squamish, B.C. Patagonia climbing ambassador Sonnie Trotter climbed the first free ascent of Cobra Crack (5.14). Sonnie worked the overhanging, thin-finger crack 30--40 times over the past few years, often rope-soloing the route to dial the moves, before completing it all-free. Sonnie said, "It's very rare to find a climb that is both overhanging, and so aesthetic. The fingers fit inside, but barely -- if the crack was any more shallow, it would be just another impossible wall, if the crack was much steeper, it may be impossible -- so I consider that route a gift for climbers. I've spent the better half of 10 years looking for a climb like that. It's perfect." Credits: Paul...

Nov 5, 2011 - What is that tape he uses for his fingers, what is it used for and where can you get it from?? Thanks
996o0o966 Says:
Nov 5, 2011 - @TeeDotOwe That is climbing tape, it is used to stop your fingers from ripping to shreds on the rock (especially when doing fingers jams etc) and most climbing walls sell it, or online of course.
TeeDotOwe Says:
Nov 5, 2011 - @996o0o966 Thanks a lot. So it isnt really necessary for climbing indoors?
996o0o966 Says:
Nov 6, 2011 - @TeeDotOwe nah it is used indoors, you can still rip the skin up on normal holds - you can wrap it around the blisters/holes to stop it getting worse etc

Jan 21, 2012 - @RonaiHenrik the one who does it gets the credit, not the one who almost did it. I think Didier get enough attention in the First Ascent. Time for Sonnie to have some love.
