I mean covering a song like this, which thrills me only by listening to it is not so easy, but I think that Madonna did it very well. Even Don said it was "a gift from a goddess", and that her version is "mystical and sensual."In these days despising Madonna is a trend topic everywhere. May 10, 2012 - I completely understand where you're coming from but this song has a certain lure and aura in the way it encapsulated America and it could only be done through Don's original voice. Despite the fact that i think madonna is a very revered and respected artist in her own right, her covering it detracted from the true wisdom of McLean's lyric. I'm not a bigot of the music industry, but songs as iconic as this can be appreciated best in their true form. Hope you see my perspective on this :)
