Description:
Captured at two angles!Bought some thermite off of ebay. Used a butane jet lighter to ignite a propane welding torch, which was then used to ignite a strip of magnesium to set the thermite off. Awesomeness ensues.WARNING: Do NOT try this at home. Thermite reactions are EXTREMELY dangerous.

Dec 19, 2008 - why did you even buy thermite? you can make several pounds easily with the raw components

EventHorizon5 Says:

Dec 19, 2008 - That's what we did actually. Bought the ingredients online, we made about 4 pounds of it i believe.

PoisonedV Says:

Dec 25, 2008 - Ah, even better! Yeah, I did some of that the other day. I've been getting back into chemistry /pyrotechnics (they really do go hand in hand huh) ever since i got a set of glassware from united nuclear the other week

Jan 23, 2009 - You think thats cool, me and my friend blue up a shed with a propane tank a flare and a rifle like in dawn of the dead. I wish I had footage for that one

EventHorizon5 Says:

Jan 23, 2009 - I doubt that. Propane tanks don't actually explode when shot, they just shoot a jet of flame.

BlueSaberedSith Says:

Jan 23, 2009 - Thats why we had the flare taped to the top of it, when the hole was made from the bullet the ignited flare caught the propane.

EventHorizon5 Says:

Jan 23, 2009 - That still doesn't work. The propane inside the tank is pure and pure propane doesn't burn. The only way the propane can catch fire is when there is oxygen available as well. And since there is no oxygen inside the tank it can't explode. The wost it can do is shoot a jet of fire out of the hole as the propane comes out and mixes with the oxygen outside.

BlueSaberedSith Says:

Jan 26, 2009 - So do you think that it is impossible to add oxygen into the propane tank? Put 75% propane and the rest oxygen! You can fill your own propane tanks. Living on a farm I have everything you would need. Isn't that hard. Not to mention, when you completely take the top off of an empty contaier there is air in there anyways.

EventHorizon5 Says:

Jan 26, 2009 - If you used a modified propane tank then sure, but most people don't have that sort of equipment. Had you mentioned that before then we wouldn't have this problem. Though frankly I still don't believe you really did it.

Jun 1, 2011 - A Florida engineer, Jonathan Cole, recently demonstrated how to use packaged thermite to cut steel girders, box columns, and bolts. See my video:Incendiary Experiments
