Title: Common / People - a William Shatner, Kirk & Spock slashup
Added: Jun 3, 2008
Author: kirkslashspock
Duration: 5:3
Description:
A mashup of the old animated Star Trek series and William Shatner's cover of Pulp's "Common People." Done in the style of K/S stories, kinda. Therefore, a "slashup." For those complaining, Joe Jackson is the singer in this duet, but Ben Folds produced the entire album it comes from, which I think is where the confusion is coming from.On Kirk/Spock stories, from Wikipedia:Almost from the beginning, fans noticed the loving nature of the relationship. A few fan writers started speculating about the possibility of a sexual relationship between Kirk and Spock. The Kirk/Spock phenomenon eventually took on a life of its own, and became one of the driving forces in Star Trek fanzines during their heyday.

Dec 11, 2011 - This is really, really awesome! This version of the song is my favourite version, and you made everything fit with it wonderfully. Great vid!(Also, did you know I'm watching a tv show called Rude Tube (is shows the best internet vid out there) and the episode Mashed 'n' Mixed has this video in it? Congrats on making it to tv if you did know!)

Dec 13, 2011 - Thanks for the info, I figured they did show it, they asked permission but I never did get around to sending them the okay... but I don't see why they'd need it from me, since I don't own the rights to the song or the video, I just put the mashup together. I'm kind of honored they went ahead and did show it though. I'm just glad people are still enjoying my silly little hobby, if you guys only knew how drunk I was putting this thing together...

Nov 21, 2011 - Thanks, that is very kind of you to say. I also like this version of Common People better, and that's not something I wanted to admit to at first. I think it's because it starts out as kind of a caricature of Shatner's acting, but quickly becomes brilliant as Joe Jackson joins in and the emotional fervor builds towards the end of the song. I'm glad you enjoyed it and hope you continue with your video edits as well!
