Title: Head Tracking for Desktop VR Displays using the WiiRemote
Added: Dec 21, 2007
Author: jcl5m
Duration: 4:46
Description:
Using the infrared camera in the Wii remote and a head mounted sensor bar (two IR LEDs), you can accurately track the location of your head and render view dependent images on the screen. This effectively transforms your display into a portal to a virtual environment. The display properly reacts to head and body movement as if it were a real window creating a realistic illusion of depth and space. By Johnny Chung Lee, Carnegie Mellon University. Jan 26, 2012 - @WeAreTMPG this would ruin the 3D television industry and, gods forbid it, make #D effects actually worth something and not just cheap tricks
WeAreTMPG Says:
Jan 26, 2012 - @Graavigala85 HA! And we wouldnt want to ruin the 3D television industry would we? Who needs innovations we can just resort to cheap camera tricks and foolish use of a gimmick lol. Its unfortunate that we will likely never see tech like this in the mainstream any time soon, at least in the forseeable future....

Jan 30, 2012 - Sure, with 2D televisions, only one person can view it. Sony developed a 3D tv where 2 players can play a game in 3d while only seeing THEIR screen. Maybe 2 sensors plus mods on this tv can equal two perspectives.

Feb 4, 2012 - @MistaScribbles uhh i dont understand what you mean, the entire tv would have to be replaced to do the thing sony did. they pretty much put two tvs on top of eachoter, a new sensor would not help because the tv can only display onething at a time, unless you partition the screen in half or something
