Description:
Complete video at: http://fora.tv/2011/03/23/Hot_The_Next_50_Years_on_EarthJournalist Mark Hertsgaard argues the United States is the only advanced industrial nation that continues to debate the existence of climate change. Though climate change skeptics only represent a minority of the country, Hertsgaard says their megaphone is large. He compares them to tobacco industry lobbyists who once rejected evidence that smoking causes cancer.-----Healy Hamilton, the director of the Center for Applied Biodiversity Informatics at the California Academy of Sciences, talks with freelance science journalist Mark Hertsgaard about his latest book, Hot: Living Through the Next 50 Years on Earth. Mark Hertsgaard is the author of five books that have been translated into sixteen languages, including Earth Odyssey: Around the World In Search of Our Environmental Future and On Bended Knee: The Press and the Reagan Presidency. A correspondent for Link TV and The Nation and L'espresso magazines, he has written for The New Yorker, Vanity Fair, Time, The Guardian, Die Zeit and other leading publications around the world. His next book is called, Hot: Living Through the Storm: Surviving the Next 50 Years of Global Warming.Dr. Healy Hamilton heads the Center for Biodiversity Research and Information at the California Academy of Sciences, and serves as adjunct professor in the Department of Geography at San Francisco State University.

Jul 2, 2011 - No It's that if you don't accept scientific consensus on issues off your area of knowledge then you are an idiot.
stap0510 Says:
Jul 3, 2011 - There is no scientific consensus, only but in the mind of gullible blind believers.Let's just be honest here: it not about the truth, it only serves your politics. As it is always about politics. That's why some people are desperately shouting to try to dominate the public discourse so they can shove their policies down the throat of everybody else.
blackadderthe4 Says:
Jul 24, 2011 - 'Again, global climate changes were happening long before Modern carbon producing machines came along' there are many different factors involved in in CC, but currently the only one is the level of co2! End of story.
2110kop Says:
Jul 25, 2011 - There is a quick simple solution to global warming and climate change. It is called Muon Catalysed Fusion. As worked on Star Scientific. NO CO2. NO Greenhouse Gases. NO Toxic Waste. The source is dueterium from the World's Oceans - virtually limitless. It is cheap to produce. WE NEED IT NOW. See the website "Star Scientific Limited", Blog "The Big Picture by Andrew Horvath", Youtube video - "In the Footsteps of Fusion"

Aug 13, 2011 - It's all political. Have you studied United Nations Agenda 21 and how it's being implemented in the US? Search YouTube for "How your community is implementing AGENDA 21" The lady with long, white hair is a liberal speaking to a conservative group.
LukeScientiae Says:
Sep 25, 2011 - Unfortunately, it is happening beyond the US. In the UK you have deniers with large megaphones too: Melanie Philips, Peter Hitchens, Lord Monckton... Look up the work of George Monbiot who tirelessly works against their nonsense.
Fesheca Says:
Nov 4, 2011 - I believe it's because they fail to take in consideration that the whole solar system is heating up, so even if we stopped producing some of these toxins, the effects of GW are still going to reach us. We can throw trillions of $ at the problem, but it will only help a certain amount. The amount of money involved is not going to stop the problem, just make us more insolvent than we are. The proven ulterior motives behind every event in the last 60+ years, tends to make us non-trusting.
Fesheca Says:
Nov 4, 2011 - What a minute. I thought Obama was going to set a limit on how much CO2 we could expel. There's plenty of hot air on the hill. Just get rid of some of that, and we'll be fine, (In more ways than ONE!)
Herecomesthefatlady Says:
Nov 9, 2011 - Fesheca"the whole solar system is heating up"Bollocks. This is an internet myth."We can throw trillions of $ at the problem, but it will only help a certain amount."Bollocks again. If we throw trillions of £ or $ at this problem we could solve it and have cheaper, cleaner energy in the future.
Fesheca Says:
Nov 9, 2011 - ROFL!!!
Herecomesthefatlady Says:
Nov 10, 2011 - Fesheca Spreading internet myths is funny?
Fesheca Says:
Nov 10, 2011 - For 50+ years, the global elite have been pulling false flags on the population; the main objective is to put more money in "their" pocket. They do NOT give a rat's ass about any of "us." You can't trust anything that comes out of either side of that mindset. Manipulation and lies prevail, & they've proven they will go to horrific depths to screw the public and keep us slaves. GW is real, but other factors have to be addressed as well. Neither side will budge, which is unconscionable.
Herecomesthefatlady Says:
Nov 11, 2011 - Fesheca ROFL!!!

Nov 20, 2011 - what a arrogant arsehole the bitch should had his cock in her mouth with all that nodding she did that might of shut him up
EdinSumar Says:
Dec 16, 2011 - Well, you certainly are an asshole.
MMAFANtastic Says:
Dec 22, 2011 - how exactly would we know for sure this is a problem? we've only had the technology to systematically study the climate for the last 100 years or so. We know nothing about millions of years ago imo. How do we know this isnt part of the earth's natural cycle and it's going to happen no matter what and its a giant repetitive cycle aka heat waves or ice ages.
rh001YT Says:
Feb 14, 2012 - The earth has warmed & cooled many times before fossil fuels came into use. There is no denial that the earth as a whole is warming a bit, but there is debate as to whether it is 1/2 degree or 2 degrees C since the advent of the industrial revolution and whether or not that's a bad thing. Oh, and not just the USA...India & China, 4 billion people, are not at all interested in cutting oil & coal use - they want more. Could we please be a little more truthful, hmmmm?
rh001YT Says:
Feb 14, 2012 - You can't just "throw" moneyat a problem. Where will the money come from? Solar lacks the enegy density relative to cost to replace carbon fuels. Nuclear energy does have high energy density/cost, but is very unpopular. So tell us, where will the money come from, and what energy source can replace carbon fuels? Tell is the game plan, oh wise one? And how will you stop Asia from using more and more carbon fuels? Asians put Asia first, in case you didn't know.
Herecomesthefatlady Says:
Feb 14, 2012 - rh001YTThere is no such thing as a free lunch when it comes to energy production, especially when you include the cost of clearing up the mess made during production. "Solar lacks the energy density relative to cost"It used to, but the cost of production is falling rapidly at the same time that technology is increasing efficiency. Some of the most exciting low carbon energy technological breakthroughs are from Asia.Americans also put America first, in case you didn't know.
rh001YT Says:
Feb 15, 2012 - Apparently you think (game, cheat) that by citing solar energy's iincrease in energy density, you validate it's ability to replace petroleum and coal. If you were honest, you would cite the very low energy density of solar relative to fossil fuels, and all it's other probs, such as storage, which suggest it will never replace fossilfuel to any appreciable degree. In fact, solar efficiency is limited by the physics of silicon - it will not improve much more.
Herecomesthefatlady Says:
Feb 16, 2012 - rh001YTI am validating solar energy both as a replacement for fossil fuels currently and to become increasingly so in the future using improved technology. My home is solar powered. Within three years of use the solar panels have 'paid back' the oil used to create, import and fit the panels. They have a lifetime guarantee of twenty five years over which time I am selling surplus electricity to the grid. If you are determined to miss out on this, so be it.1 of 2
Herecomesthefatlady Says:
Feb 16, 2012 - rh001YT Obviously I can't generate electricity at night, so I buy it in from an electricity company that guarantees every Kw is from renewables. One of the most exciting projects I'm involved with is anaerobic digestion - a terrific way to generate heat, natural gas and electricity from waste organic material. It is a profitable way of reducing land-fill. And the by-product? A slurry that can be spread on fields as a fertiliser.2 of 2
Saaduk92 Says:
Apr 24, 2012 - The people who deny it only do so for political reasons. Any one with even a rudimentary understanding of Science should be able to see the existence of Man-Made Climate Change. Most will throw in a rant about someone like Al Gore but not be able to sufficiently tackle the Science behind it. Even when they attempt to the Deniers only bring up discredited theories that have been demonstrably proven to be wrong time and time again.
TheAthiestMovement Says:
May 18, 2012 - easy answer:a democrat brought it into light, not a republican

WoundedEgo Says:
Jun 28, 2011 - The nutz deny that the Earth is getting warmer. The informed question how much is of this is due to human activity, and how much is not. The fanatics blame the US.The important thing is that it is happening, and we have to deal with it. That is measurable. Who's to blame is fool's game.
