Sony's shiny, new handheld device had a decent launch week in Japan but has since dramatically dropped off in sales, prompting a price drop by some retailers..The Nintendo 3DS enjoyed a good launch in Japan and retailers were hoping the 3DS would match or beat its numbers. Launch week saw around 320,000 units sold but the following week only around 72,000 units sold. That is significantly less than Nintendo's counterpart..Retailers weren't so happy about this so they took it upon themselves to lower the price of the 3G model of the Vita by as much as 20% in order to get units off the shelves. The more popular Wi-Fi version is $50 cheaper and has the same Internet access capabilities as long as you are connected to a Wi-Fi network. The 3G allows you to use mobile phone networks to connect where Wi-Fi is not available..Here in the U.S. that means a contract with AT&T. The pricing will be similar to 3G iPads starting at around $15 bucks a month. Add that onto the the $300 price tag of the 3G Vita and I'm not surprised the 3G models are collecting dust..The initial announcement of the Vita's price point seemed to indicate that it was meant to be a competitor to the 3DS, and perhaps the Vita will see a similar fate. The 3DS had a 40% reduction in price within the first 6 months of launch, prompting Nintendo to launch an Ambassador Program to appease angry customers. .Sony has not officially commented on the price drop, and is holding firm at their retail price points, but if units don't continue to sell, we could see a price drop in the Vita's future. What do you guys think about this? Is the Vita overpriced? Are Japanese retailers just overreacting? How much do you think it is worth? Let me know in a comment below. I'll keep you updated on all things Vita right here on Clevver Games so make sure to subscribe to stay in the know. I'm Andrea Rene and thanks for watching.

Apr 21, 2012 - Before the vita came out everybody was like It's going to out sell the 3ds in like a month easy or the first month sales will be much higher.Well if sony don't make it so damn expensive maybe it would sell more. At least they are starting to get the Idea and wants to do something about it
BojaDrawing Says:
Apr 23, 2012 - the vita has no games, so I can wait lol sony make some games ffs
dailydistruction Says:
Apr 26, 2012 - I don't think it is the price so much, but that people who bought it can't recommend it to people. I bought one and don't recommend anyone buying one. To many problems it might as well have been pre loaded with windows me. The screen on the first one was defective. Waiting for third one to get back from Sony repair center because it got stuck in restore mode and won't do anything else.
Log4n12 Says:
Apr 29, 2012 - The system itself costs alot, then memory cards are overpriced, and no backwards compatibility. Just not worth it for a mobile gaming device in my opinion.
NakiGoeZeroNel Says:
Apr 30, 2012 - If they do then they should give out free games like nintendo did because if not then tons of fans would be dismayed...I would definitely would be one of them,

Vyrus95 Says:
Apr 9, 2012 - $150 for a Ps vita w/ wifi ? Keep dreaming guys.Sony would never do that to their most powerful handheld consolei understand its overly priced and buying an expensive memory card is stupid but you guys are underestimating the vita. $150 is way too low, lower than the 3DS and you people actually think sony would ever agree to selling a ps vita that low ? Like i said, Keep dreaming.$200 is more likely.
