Dec 14, 2009 - We did this in the military, except the water was just above freezing point, around 35 fahrenheit. We stayed there for 7 minutes, and it was by far the longest minutes of my life!

Jul 16, 2010 - Great info. I have been seriously hypothermic a few times, but because I am a great swimmer (International level competitor) I knew to conserve heat. This required the fetal dead man's float that was not demonstrated here. Do not struggle, the more you do the more you make the cold your enemy. Do control your breathing. Do scull or fin your way to an escape, but you have an hour!!!! Let yourself be cold. Force your cold unresponsive muscles to scull, even in a semi curled fetal position!

Nov 26, 2010 - Is the risk of falling into traumatically cold water really worth voluntarily jumping into it?
HeatherKove Says:
Apr 6, 2011 - One issue this video doesn't emphasize enough is that your brain will not function optimally. You'll think you are fully rational, but you are not!
kfunk01 Says:
Apr 25, 2011 - Question can one not float on there back after a certain point?
ForeverFitTraining Says:
Apr 25, 2011 - this is the real having been through under water survival training myself with the usaf combat control I know. Nice video so people can respect what we do in the military.
NASBLASafeBoating Says:
Apr 28, 2011 - @kfunk01 When a person is immersed in cold water without a life jacket on, there are limits to how long a person can keep themselves afloat - regardless of what swimming (or floating) technique is used.
