Oct 26, 2011 - I saw this film last night at the austin film festival. It was hands down the best film of the year. Grace I think you will like this film.

Nov 15, 2011 - I'm SO up to the "challenge" of this movie! I'm a huge fan of Gene Kelly and of classic films in general, this one appears to be right up my alley. Plus, I've discovered Jean Dujardin due to this film and have already checked out the OSS 117 movies. I'll be rooting for this one all the way to the Oscars!

Nov 24, 2011 - Love this, but at the same time "The Silent Life" has color, better directing, and is the original idea... Anyone have any suggestions on which one I should see?

Nov 29, 2011 - I'm probably being too picky here, but I didn't care for the line: "This is the format in which movies first rose to popularity, minus the French angle."Minus? Why? Movies were invented by the French (Lumiere Bros.). Special effects on film were invented by the French (Melies). There were some great French silent films...

Dec 1, 2011 - ...if anything City Lights (1931) and Modern Times (1936) are essential to the silent to talkie transition...and Chaplin's refusal to conform was pretty bold considering the Tramp's fading superstar stature. If you ask me, it's negligent to leave either one of these Chaplin films out. Too many armchair quarterbacks.

Dec 1, 2011 - you mean Sunrise

Dec 2, 2011 - This girl is well meaning, but is completely and utterly wrong that anyone needs to "get in shape" to enjoy the artist. It needs no introduction nor primer. it sells itself and is enjoyable, even for people who never even knew that once movies were silent. they'll figure it out.
bibo3070 Says:
Dec 7, 2011 - Hmmm, nice attempt, but what is missed here is A STAR IS BORN (1 original and 2 remakes, listing Judy Garland and the latest - not so great - with Barbra Streisand... THAT will be the almost exact storyline The Artist shares. As a nice experiment, in case you attention span doesn't hold for more than 2 seconds, watch it and try to imagine the most amazing dialogue - quite a difference compared to so many movies that have eternal dialogues and go nowhere.

Dec 27, 2011 - I'll make it real simple: if you want to "taste" a REAL silent film, go see Keaton's "Sherlock Jr.". It's only around 45 minutes long and will IMMEDIATELY pull in the viewer and seriously hold them for the most incredible 45 minutes they've ever experienced. Also, try Chaplin's "The Kid" where you'll understand the power of silent cinema in one of the most wrenching tears-inducing emotional moments in all of cinema ever.
