May 6, 2012 - Just read "A Killing Art" the untold history of Taekwondo by Alex Gillis. A very well researched practitioner of Taekwondo. However Choi did learn Shotokan karate just not under Funakoshi. That's where I not sure. The book will answer your inquires. No hard feelings.

May 7, 2012 - Karate is a great form and so is Taekwondo. In my opinion they are both very good. Taekwondo is amazing if the other person knows no formal martial art because in a fight most people wont expect a back hook kick or a roundhouse to the head. But even in the event that the other person knows a martial art, Taekwondo is still and amazing art in which u can defend yourself greatly. So in my personal opinion Taekwondo reigns superior. This Taekwondo Artist just isn't the best at the Art.

May 13, 2012 - I have nothing against Taekwondo and Karate, but I do have a problem with the way they are taught in the west. There are too many people who teach them like sports, not martial arts. There are thing you learn in ring fighting that are just flat-out impractical in a real fight.It's sad, really. I've seen how effective and deadly the forms can be if taught correctly, but bringing a sport to a street brawl is like bring a knife to a gun fight.
