But in today's deregulated world it is dwarfed by much greater factors. Anyway, You aren't thinking that a gold standard is a viable mechanism to issue currency are you? The gold would have to be concentrated in a few hands and places as it was, and gold itself is subject to enormous fluctuations as it still is.
