Dec 20, 2011 - It's not like a lot of this stuff in his video won't work, and the basics work fine, especially if you're a big mutant like Bas Rutten, but I don't know how effective a lot of this would be, since a lot of people don't know the mechanics to properly pick up a guy and smash him into the ground. He should explain that, or offer alternatives, so it's not just about being a big, strong brute, since most people aren't like Bas Rutten.
Griffin199426 Says:
Dec 24, 2011 - If you dont know how to lift him up or smack him down you should pobably run, not fight....
tgreer0120 Says:
Dec 24, 2011 - @Griffin199426, I wouldn't agree with that and that someone should be able to (or know how to properly), but people shouldn't engage no matter how much tougher they think they are. In fact, if you are, you just have the potential that the person will be making up for their weakness by carrying a blade. Also, you probably risk more legal trouble. Running should always be an option, if possible, but how often can people really run and get away is a good question, too.
Griffin199426 Says:
Dec 26, 2011 - they shouldnt, but they do. a knife was an option for me, cs-gas is better. but if you want to learn this techniques to fight you have to practice, you havent got time to think and remeber what he said about an arm-bar if you are allready in it. so you need to practice to be able to use this martial art, an when you do this you maybe might probably get to know how to throw yourself at your enemy. ram your shoulder into his face or your elbow in his stomach xD
tgreer0120 Says:
Dec 26, 2011 - @Griffin199426, well that's the aspect that most people fail to do, or lack that exposure to doing, and that's to "train". I'd wager that most of the people commenting on fight/martial arts/training videos on Youtube, probably watch and comment more than they actually train. No doubt that training to get used to it and to react faster, is better than just watching videos/ideas and training them only a little (or not at all). But then, it is the Internet. :-)
Y2KillerSPOOBLY Says:
Jan 18, 2012 - I disagree with that. Many, if not all, of the moves he demonstrates here use joint leverage to injure the antagonist - twisting joints and bones in directions they aren't meant to twist. It's designed so that anyone of any fitness level can understand how to defend themselves. Remember, at the very beginning he says 'never underestimate the kick to the groin'. And he encourages using your elbows and knees, parts of your body that will inflict damage regardless of your size.
tgreer0120 Says:
Jan 18, 2012 - @Y2KillerSPOOBLY, Definitely joint locks, etc. are effective, but I was talking about many of his techniques were based on picking up and slamming a large person, hitting them in the head or kicking them to cause a lot of damage, and that's just not something the common person can do, at least not without training, strength and knowing those levers, which Bas doesn't go into detail about. Of course this stuff works, but for how many without proper knowledge? That's always true.
Y2KillerSPOOBLY Says:
Jan 18, 2012 - Thats true, and I don't think anybody without boxing or mma training would remember or be capable of the more advanced moves you see. In his defence, in situations where he does slam somebody to the ground or throw them, its usually the only way out. Like the rear headlock. You can't elbow or squirm your way out, pulling his legs out from under him is the most effective exit. You'd be lucky to score a good 'HEEL TO DAH BALLS' tied up like that. But I hear what you're saying.
