Jan 30, 2012 - They're one of my all time favorite bands. I even put on a Savatage Convention in New Jersey back in 99. First off look at their influences: Beatles, Queen and Pink Floyd. They just kicked it up a few notches. I wouldn't really say ahead of their time as much as just not being cliche in the metal genre. So yes, they were original in their sound but not ahead of their time.

Feb 4, 2012 - Savatage always possessed fantastic musicianship, instrumentation, melodies, word imagery, and vocalization. Needless to say, they are an under-rated band. Great music that will stand the test of time.

May 15, 2012 - Sinbysin666, thy were ahead of their time. Bands like Nightwish play this orchestral metal stuff and alot of it's good. But when Savatage did this in 89, nobody was doin it. Groups like Nightwish write this stuff now, and people talk about bands like that as though they started it. This could well be Metal's most underrated not talked about influential album just about ever

May 16, 2012 - I'm not much of a fan of Nightwish, I really prefer Blind Guardian's A Night At The Opera personally. The point I was makin is that there are other bands writin stuff just like this now, and Savatage did this well over 20 yrs ago and nobody talks about it. Savatage were years ahead of their time with this album, no question about it

May 16, 2012 - Well, it doesn't matter, because Sava have passed down in history as classical music does, regardless of trends. They have passed the test of time, unlike the pile of almost all contemporary metal bands that keep striving for innovation. I am sure many metalheads of 2150 CE, will listen to Savatage( of 1990) in the same way that I still listen to Tchaikovsky or Liszt.

Jan 10, 2012 - It's not you....they were very much ahead of their time, and obviously not promoted well early on, since they're only 1000000 times better than every other band of their era. Paul Oneill and Jon working together really brought out their talent. It's a shame it took the formation of TSO for most of the world to see (hear) it.
