Jan 27, 2010 - the chinese people call it erhu, nanhu or sometimes matouqin too,it like a violin with just 2 strings... thats a roughly translation but i don't know how i could explain it in english^^

Jan 31, 2010 - Thanks for the reply! Haha, wow - there sure are a lot of different names and variants of the Chinese bow instruments. But I guess it's like with the Western violin. The "standard" violin = erhu (or Southern fiddle, hence the "NANhu"), and then you have the cello which would also have a Chinese equivalent, depending on the scales of the 'erhu'. bla bla bla, it's a magical sounding instrument, enough said. :)

Jun 11, 2011 - Er the accent is used mostly by northern Chinese, while Nan for the southern Chinese, but the meaning is pretty much the same for explain; [US English= Mom, English= Mum] meaning is still the same. Yes, its much like a violin only different, simple way to put is a long neck and a small body. On this song, a violin is being played not a Erhu/Nan-hu because the tune for the Erhu/Nan-hu is much lower than the violin since Erhu/Nan-hu only using two strings rather than four.
