Title: Longest Laugh in Televsion History: "The Eggs"

Added: Feb 19, 2011

Author: Lucyeths12

Duration: 3:30

Description:
Longest recorded laugh in television history from the "I Love Lucy" season 6 episode, "Lucy Does the Tango." This is what having a live audience is all about. It is only fitting that that longest laugh belongs to the most celebrated and comical (although I am biased) television show ever to grace our sets.A little background to the tango: In their new country home, Lucy and Ricky decide to raise chickens in a coop in the yard of their home. Ricky hires Fred to help him with the upkeep, so Fred and Ethel live in the guest house on the country estate. However, the chickens are not producing the desired amount of eggs, so Ricky is preparing to fire Fred, forcing the Mertzes to move back to the city. In an effort to "give the chickens the right idea," Lucy and Ethel hatch a plan to plant dozens of store-bought eggs in the coop, where the boys will see them and think the chickens are doing their job. In the process of hiding the eggs for the journey to the coop, the girls encounter their husbands who make that journey impossible, and all Hell breaks loose when Ricky wants to rehearse the tango for his son's school PTA performance.

Apr 21, 2012 - Would love to see that - partly as a time capsule of 60's attitudes.

Apr 21, 2012 - "rather than causing one to think about their own existence in the face of chaos." This bit of pretentious verbiage made me laugh out loud - too funny... Oh wait, you weren't kidding.

Apr 28, 2012 - I'm 12 and I love watching reruns of this show whenever I go to my grandparents house. They have all the seasons on DVD.My grandma says that at the time this show was made, profanity and the word sex were never used on television. She said that a whole family could sit down and watch TV and laugh at clean comedy. I'm ashamed and embarrassed of our society we have now.

May 1, 2012 - 1. You aren't 13.2. Even if you were, whoop dee doo. You know of stuff before you were born. Want a fucking cookie?3. Ashamed of WHAT? With your EXTREMELY naive/narrow/limited perspective and understanding of the world around you if you really were 13?4. Either way, you're the typical twatty little Youtube attention whore that doesn't know jack shit I Love Lucy apart from the obvious popular clips and just says shit like this so old people can pretend they're better than everyone else.

ktownshutdown21 Says:

May 1, 2012 - And besides, the Carol Burnett Show beats this record anyways. And that show was actually FUNNY, not this whitebred sterile faux-50's-perfection BS that ultra-conservative downtrodden afraid-of-the-real-world lonely housewives latched on to. And people complain about the Disney Channel and Glee and High School Musical....

TheFunnysmile123 Says:

May 1, 2012 - um you don't know anything about me.I said my age to simply prove you don't have to be born in a certain generation just to love something classic. And not everybody who's my age is sucked into crappy music and tv shows. So just because I don't go around calling people names like you doesn't mean I can't enjoy commenting what I feel about the 40's and 50's ok?

May 5, 2012 - Do you really think hats what it was about? Lucy and Desi started the show to save their marriage, and Carol started hers because it happened to work out. Both of these women LOVED each other. Look it up they had an amazing friendship and they just did different humor. The shows were different because Lucy is slapstick comedy and in the same way that some people don't like slapstick they don't have to like this either. This is like what the Marx Brothers did.

orhugs Says:

May 5, 2012 - Lucy was an amazing actress and it was supposed to be light hearted and funny and make you forget about the world.

orhugs Says:

May 5, 2012 - Amen sister! :) I'm 16 and I live for the classic life <3 You be strong and you stand up to all these jack asses who say were young and stupid we know we aren't and well.. we'll prove their sorry asses wrong :!!

May 13, 2012 - It is the longest laugh...Because people are still laughing at this scene over 50 years later...:D

1simaddict1 Says:

May 16, 2012 - She was like the first female comedian actress to to do the physical comedy and it be funny and acceptable. Only men did it before and were successful at it. Other women tried and it wasn't as funny or just didn't work as well, but when Lucy came along, she had something extra. Even though she started off wanting to be a movie star, she ended up becoming a television star and one of the best in History. Bigger than some movies stars almost everything she did on I love Lucy was historic.

JazzyFizzful Says:

May 18, 2012 - 65 seconds.
