May 23, 2012 - This sort of thing is very scary and interesting at the same time
ARUALSOEE Says:
May 24, 2012 - Zimbardo 's experiment turned out more cruel than he tought i would be, but it was necessairy to investigate what people do in a situation like this. The experiment clarified things that happened in the past. (like what the Nazi did etc)
MrBel23 Says:
May 24, 2012 - Interesting, this happens every day to people taken by police and mental health -even when its for there own seeming protection, and there, they are abused with people who think they have to control them- on a professional level. Leader and professionals REMEMBER the experiment showed THAT THIS POWER OVER OTHERS CORRUPTS YOU, AND THERE IS NO WAY FOR THOSE YOU ABUSE TO STOP YOU, HELP ! It is extremely ugly this is why authority and doctors are not trusted in society by at least the wise.

May 24, 2012 - It's the basis for "basic" military training. It's brainwashing pure and simple. They have to "break" you to get you to do things a sane person normally wouldn't. To turn off the mind and just follow orders. I went through it and it was just like this.
BrisbaneBruce Says:
May 24, 2012 - totally don't agree...plenty of "real world"...real life examples to study...plenty of Nazis and their prisoners were still around and well documented...the fact this clown wanted to be the "warden" and had to be coerced into stopping this is ridiculous
ARUALSOEE Says:
May 24, 2012 - You have a point there :) But I may have given a wrong example. It is just about giving/having people a 'role', and in a certain situations, they act like it. (social pressure etc etc) Good people can become cruel in some situations
SRAIGYR Says:
May 24, 2012 - Haha, calm down ;)
SRAIGYR Says:
May 24, 2012 - It's so cool that it is actually proven that almost anyone can become sadistic/abusing just by being put in such a role. It's amazing how people so easily adjust to their current environment and totally seem to forget who they really are, and that everything in fact is just unreal.
22void Says:
May 24, 2012 - Isn't the movie "The Experiment" with Adrian Brody and Forest Whitaker based on this documentary? There is an eerie similarity.
PronViewerUSA Says:
May 25, 2012 - Prisoner 8612 looks like Eminem...
Mystepho Says:
May 25, 2012 - @22void Kinda, but there is a far greater german movie called Das Experiment which was the reason for the Brody movie. Both is connected to this experiment, though.

Harvy355 Says:
May 28, 2012 - Every single time we ever did anything on this in Psychology I would always say that they didn't have the right to withdraw. They were forced to continue even when they had shown genuine concern for the person getting 'shocked'. So although the figures are still shocking (pardon the pun) it's not like they just happily flicked through each voltage right up to 450v and walked off without so much as turning back. I'd say most if not all ppts were concerned and were forced go on with it...
