Here's a little poem I wrote over 11 years ago. Before you ask, it was inspired by a girl, but the actual events that took place don't match the poem exactly. Anyway, I was trying to go to sleep one night and kept tossing and turning with these words running through my head. I couldn't get to sleep until I got up and put the words down on paper. I have written other poems, but I am most proud of this one.The music over this video is by Enya and it is titled "March of the Celts".With writing poems and listening to Enya, I guess I should also let you guys know that I am completely straight. (Just thought I'd add that in)For you my love's been growingfrom the day that we first met.You have always had my heart,but your heart I could not get.We became the best of friendsbut I kept my love inside,because I didn't want to take the chanceof having it denied.And then one day I got the nerveto tell you how I feel'cause all the love I had for youcould no longer be concealed.To my surprise you told methat you wanted more yourself,but as friends we grew too closeto take a chance at something else.You said that I was like your brotherknowing secrets from your pastand if we took a chance as lovers,then our friendship wouldn't last.I listened to your words,but to me they made no sense.So to try to stop the pain insideI took up a defense.I told myself that there wereother fish in the sea,and a girl would have to be a foolto deny a guy like me.I thought I could forget youin another woman's bed,but no matter who I slept withyou were always in my head.And I noticed that no matterhow much I slept aroundthe love you got so easilywas nowhere to be found.I couldn't care for anyonethe way I cared for youand it seemed to me another girlwas never gonna do.So without a heart to love withit makes me quite annoyedthat the friendship that you tried to savewas totally destroyed.I know you're bound to give your heartto someone else someday,so I choose to keep my distanceso I won't stand in your way.Plus I know that if I were aroundI couldn't stand to seethe love that I knew deep insideshould have belonged to me.So now I can't help wonderingif telling you was wrong.Should I not have said a thing,or did I just wait way too long?I think that if we took a chancethen things could have been great,but I don't think I should take the blamebecause I chose to wait.To say anyone was wrong or right,I guess that it depends,but I think that if you're loversthen you should start off as friends.But now we've lost our friendshipand we've gone our separate ways.I have learned to live without youand I guess that I'm okay.However I've forgottenhow to let my feelings show,and if I'm still in love with youI guess you'll never know.© 1995 Phil W.
