Description:
For your enjoyment: Here's a clip from the silent film West Point, starring William Haines and Joan Crawford. The footage is from a great documentary from Turner Classic Movies called Joan Crawford: The Ultimate Movie Star.I've set the footage against an early performance by Joan singing "I Never Knew Heaven Could Speak." I've also included a few photos of Joan and Bill together."Wealthy Bruce Wayne enters West Point and, though he does well on the football field, angers fellow cadets with his arrogance. Disciplined by the coach he yells "To hell with the Corps!" which would have led to further discipline but for the intervention of his hero-worshipping roommate "Tex." He resigns anyway, but just before the big game returns to lead his team and reunite with Betty Channing, the hotel owner's daughter." -- from imdb.com

Jul 1, 2009 - The coffee table book 'Class Act' on William Haines is wonderful, & a fitting tribute to a great interior decorator and designer. He was sacked from movies for being gay, so all his actress friends had him decorate their homes, and thus, started his new career. Joan is on the cover with him, they were best friends. Hey, visit my completely Joan Crawford channel. Robbie.

Feb 22, 2010 - HarborGuy? I think her voice has a rather endearing quality to it. Certainly her speaking voice, articulation, and easy conversion to talkies will attest to that. This song SO represents the period.

Mar 27, 2010 - I love the Roaring Twenties! I love Joan Crawford! And that Billy Haines ain't too bad looking--his lover was a lucky man!!!

disneyclint Says:

Mar 27, 2010 - @Shubael1809 I agree, everything was so different back then. Joan Crawford's singing voice may sound weird now, but it probably sounded special then, in a pleasingly different sort of way.I HATE the way most singers sing today.
