Apr 1, 2008 - i've found the synthetic wine corks fit the extra small scup-holes in ocean kayak... used two in my Prowler...One pool noodle can make about a thousand $6.00 ocean kayak plugs ..can't beat that either... great idea another idea i'm going to try is... putting the noodle on an alum pipe... to place under the knees for support when just sitting/fishing..braced on the top of the kayak.. ( just to hold the knees upwards/for the change.

May 5, 2008 - Thanks for poasting this. I just got off the phone with the local kayak repair shop. they charge $35/hr for heat welding. With 7 kayaks that need to be repaired - the DIY scupper plug is looking pretty good!

May 7, 2008 - Why do they even have scuppers at the seat? Do they expect us to sit in water or do they expect us to plug them.

Jul 30, 2009 - Great idea. I used packing from a computer box, It's the same material. The only difference is I took a piece of PVC pipe and filed the edge at an angle. It works just like a cookie cutter.

Jul 3, 2010 - @fishyaker ok im going to asume that the scupper plug is the thing you pull when you want the water inside the kayak to drain okie dokie so why do you loose the original one in the first place why not like put it on a cord

Sep 16, 2010 - Well, good video, and good idea. I would only make one comment, and that's about smoothing the sides with a lighter. I would use a candle. Damn lighters get hot and can burn your fingers on the metal part, and my finger gets tired holding the lighter gas lever down. A candle stays lit by itself (inside out of the wind), and allows you to use two hands to rotate the foam over the flame. Happy Yaking.
