Title: Thrust SSC - Fly-by (Excellent Mirage)

Added: Apr 14, 2007

Author: PrivateCustard

Duration: 0:44

Description:
On the 15th October 1997 Thrust SSC became the first car to ever break the sound barrier. Piloted by Wing Commander Andy Green of the RAF, a top speed of 763.035mph over the flying mile was achieved.I've uploaded five videos, one on-board and four external (but unfortunately sound-free) videos that I found on the back end of a BBC website. Jun 22, 2011 - no they heard the sonic boom. The sonic boom has nothing to do w/ the Prandtl-Glauert singularity. It has to do w/ breaking the sound barrier where the pressure of the air builts up in front and finally (at greater than sound velocity) cannot keep up w/ the speed of the vehicle. Then the 'breaking' occurs. And yes, the engineers watching it there heard the sound clearly.

Jun 23, 2011 - yah, I was just wondering

alcosher Says:

Jul 17, 2011 - you do not have to be in the air to create a sonic boom, that is caused by the movement of the air around you regardlesss of whether you are on the ground or not.

yomamasapeach Says:

Jul 17, 2011 - but will the condensation occur around the fuselage of the thrust ssc in which there is that cone of pressurized air?

HeLpErNaThAn Says:

Jul 24, 2011 - WRONG it has 4wheels all fast cars must have 4wheels a trike has 3 bad joke.

RamboLambo670 Says:

Jul 25, 2011 - Although the Thrust ssc has 4 wheels, the rear wheels were very close to each other (like 2 inches apart) and means that in essence, it was a trike, in the same way that a Dodge Tomahawk (look it up) is considered a motorcycle, although it technically has four wheels and should be a quad bike.

jsDX11 Says:

Aug 27, 2011 - What would happen if this hit you? Would you explode?

zzztubazzz Says:

Sep 1, 2011 - bullshit they can not go more the 220 mph So if you don't know anything shut the fuck up Mother Fucker

kawsihen Says:

Sep 17, 2011 - can somebody explain me how that vehicle still sticks to the ground at such a speed?

satan666tdotd Says:

Dec 10, 2011 - @Zzztubazzz yes they can as clearly shown you muppet and they had government funding so no laws were brocken an if they was government funded it so nufon gon be done, silly face

Mrk2268 Says:

Apr 11, 2012 - Kawsihen, they actually design it as an upside down airplane wing. This way instead of creating lift and the vehical rises into air. It creates down pressure and it air passing over it pushes into the ground keeping it from lifting. There is a real fine line as to how much lift and down pressure is allowed because to much will just slow down the speed and not enough will create a launch. Hope this helps. ( airplane wing flipped over)

EinSofQuester Says:

May 19, 2012 - It doesnt seem to be moving at hundreds of miles per hour. Maybe a hundred miles per hour tops.
