Jul 15, 2011 - My mom and dad owned a full size Bell and Howell Projector. We rented films from the public library. The Red Balloon was one of the films we rented and got to watch at home in the late 60's. Brings back many childhood memories.

Oct 10, 2011 - i've seen this film countless times, but each time, right at the end, i always expect them to pop.
afriendofbean Says:
Oct 20, 2011 - Well, the helium in the balloons leaks out even if a person is holding a thousand helium balloons, and once enough helium has leaked out, the balloons slowly bring a person back down to the ground. However, the person won't land in the same spot where they first flew up. (So once Pascal here on this video flew up by standing on that grass, he won't land on that grass).
afriendofbean Says:
Oct 20, 2011 - @paraclete56 Well, since that red balloon is magical and is alive, the Red Balloon knew that before it died completely, it felt Pascal's (his young kid friend) sadness. So out of magic, the Red Balloon caused every single balloon in Paris to come to him just to make Pascal happy that he gets every single balloon in Paris all for himself.
afriendofbean Says:
Oct 20, 2011 - On Wikipedia, it says that Pascal (the young kid here) went on a cluster balloon ride over the city. So maybe, those other magic balloons (just like the Red Balloon is magical) took him all over the city of Paris and once he got his ride all over Paris, the balloons probably put him back down from where he was standing or he probably had to wait until enough helium leaked out of the balloons for him to land.

Oct 20, 2011 - I also saw this movie when I was in Kindergarten about 24 years ago. The way how I saw it with other classmates was where the Kindergarten teacher was going to take us students to music class but, the music teacher said he can't have class because he said he wasn't feeling well so we were taken to the school auditorium to watch a movie which was "The Red Balloon."

Oct 25, 2011 - Its very rare that i would want a kid to die in film and literature, and 0:01 is one of those rare moments. And was I the only one who thought the balloons would go on a murderous rampage in revenge for the red balloon?
BigBeautifulBalloons Says:
Nov 19, 2011 - I've just watched my DVD copy of this movie. Unlike so many here, I never got to see this movie as a child (not that I remember anyway). The last 2 minutes of the film may well be my favorite movie scene ever, and confirm to me why I love balloons (especially big, perfectly round ones) so much (I've rewound and replayed that scene so many times just to gaze in wonder at all those beautiful balloons :) ). I would love to fly with dozens of big, beautiful, helium-filled balloons.

Nov 29, 2011 - everything about this film, the story, the loss of the balloon, the depiction of childhood and of old Paris, is extremely nostalgic and beautiful. It just breaks my heart everytime I watch it. It's a strange feeling I also had when I was a child watching that film.

It brings back a tear every time I watch it. It's just so pure, innocent, and the beauty within the story and film is breath-taking. Thank you so much for posting this video.
