Apr 30, 2012 - Not to split hairs, but if someone really was waiting for a (good) afterlife, even if they're totally deluded and wrong, it would not be a bleak outlook. On the contrary, it's quite promising. But I'm glad you admit that imagining eternal death is bleak on some level.

HeavyMetalMouse Says:

May 2, 2012 - Why live? I only know that I have the space of time I am alive on this planet to exist. I want to spend as much of it as I can having fun and trying to make things more awesome. The longer I can go without dying, the more I can do that. If there -is- an eternity after death in which something happens, then I'm not missing anything by waiting a while to have some more awesome in the life I know about here. Infinite afterlife time minus a few decades is still infinite afterlife time.

joebharris Says:

May 3, 2012 - Great Vid, Your hard work shows. I especially like the music in this one. It fits it perfectly. Thanks

VanBradford Says:

May 3, 2012 - No, it's not the proper approach, because it's not the not-being itself, that's bleak, but the imagination of it, just like the imagination of a wasted life, of an eternal death, etc. By your "approach" I could similarly argue that eternal death isn't bleak at all, because you're dead then. Bleak are the according imaginations (beliefs) of the living, as you presumed in your first comment yourself. The proper point of view, in this case, has to be OUR pov, not the one of the non-existent.

amuslimguy Says:

May 3, 2012 - You have a point, but the imagination of "not having ever been born" is an irrelevant hypothetical that has nothing to do with our future, whereas the thought of "not existing anymore" is a very real notion that an atheist would have to deal with (or others who believe in the finality of death). Of course it isn't bleak to you once you die, but while you're alive, it is.The thought of "wasting your life" is only bleak if you think that the alternative is even possible given a fleeting life.

FHomeBrew Says:

May 6, 2012 - Yes, certainly I do not deny that. But if you take "Elvis lives!" literally, you might be disappointed to find out the truth of the matter. You could say "he lives by means of his music/legacy" but he's not around. That's my point. Also, you might be overestimating the butterfly effect, as we inhabit only a very VERY minute part of space time.I'm not arguing against you, I'm kinda nuancing what I meant.

YumeNK Says:

May 7, 2012 - Where does this come from? I believe to have infinite amount of lives. And to commit suicide is to skip one chapter and go onto reading another. See what I did there.

YumeNK Says:

May 7, 2012 - Why live? And then an infinite chain of all imaginable answers follows (including this one). I can't answer this question no longer, because I realize that any answer comes only from the paradigm of my own understanding of life and such is equal to any other answer. Well then, why do I live right now? I ask myself that question everyday. And I don't have a clue what to answer to myself, honestly.

hsenaginaroops Says:

May 7, 2012 - SO INSPIRATIONAL, IT MADE ME CRY..almostI couldn't have found a better answer myself..thank you

link242003 Says:

May 9, 2012 - "Why live" *sigh* it's depressing and redundant. I want to live because I am alive. I also have personal reasons why I want to live. BUT, a bigger question would be "why do we live?" I can say we live so our children can live, but that's also redundant. We live so we can explore, but nothing needs to be explored if we didn't exist. Luckily I keep myself ignorant from the really deep thoughts so I don't go offing myself.

j3rmms Says:

May 12, 2012 - Sorry, but the pain of life for myself (and far too many others) makes this video a cruel mockery, a very offensive insult, and offers nothing of substance. With what is offered in this video, the most logical thing I could possibly do would be to end the suffering I have before it inevitably worsens. Death would be a welcome escape

CyberDraco Says:

May 12, 2012 - "Luckily I keep myself ignorant from the really deep thoughts so I don't go offing myself."I need to do that more often it seems. Or find a different way of thinking deeply.

NormannTheDoorman Says:

May 13, 2012 - I always question the point of living to serve a 'perfect' being(aka god)

ronmaest1 Says:

May 13, 2012 - Why live?To do the things we couldn't if we weren't. To behave in the effect of life - causality. Most of us have what's necessary for right now and it's all a means to an inevitable end. Evolution doesn't care that you live a 'good' or 'bad' life, only that you live enough to propagate - there's no great plan.

victim160 Says:

May 13, 2012 - Anyone know where I can find this music for download?

QualiaSoup Says:

May 15, 2012 - Hello, victim160. The music (a track called 'Helicopter' by TheraminTrees) is available for download at Theramin's 'bandcamp' site. I've put a link in the video description box.

victim160 Says:

May 16, 2012 - Didn't spot it. My bad.

peronix8 Says:

May 19, 2012 - As a child I was told that one day I would be perfect and live forever. It took until I was 20 to realize that eternal perfection would be the ultimate hell. There would be absolutely nothing to aspire to. Simple entertainment would dull quickly. And it would never end. When you've lived more years than there are atoms in the universe and have searched it out, when long since before even new worlds start to look all the same, will you not desire for death?

blahmah4 Says:

May 20, 2012 - Amazing video, thanks.

LunaticThinker Says:

ZeBlueSpy Says:

May 23, 2012 - Why not?

bebo3ful Says:

May 25, 2012 - Not only that. People into adulthood often do not want to leave a religion due to family making them outcasts and looking down on them for not believing in the family religion. Religion 'evolved' to be a cultural advantage as it was beneficial to be associated with other people of the same faith whether it be money and/or relationships. Many people are unable to leave their religion due to the perceived costs of not believing. However this is obviously changing as everyone has heard.

ItsDorp Says:

May 25, 2012 - Why live? -> length 4:20hah.

hatesgames Says:

May 26, 2012 - Well constructed and executed video. I do appreciate where you say that everyone must come to their own conclusions, but I still have yet to find someone who can come up with a satisfying (for me, mind you) reason to live if there is nothing after. (And I couldn't give a sh** about religion, btw...)
