Apr 19, 2012 - Your recommendations to be seen "as easy 'ins' for someone attempting to get into jazz"?? LOL, I'd rather say these recommendations are for somebody who's already been heavily introduced into Jazz!
GreatScottPilgrimage Says:
Apr 20, 2012 - Check out Sketches Of Spain by Miles Davis and maybe Hot Rats by Frank Zappa

Apr 21, 2012 - Definitely go with Kind of Blue. "So What" is a great one. Splinter is right; it's the best-selling jazz album of all time.
Grindgodgrind Says:
Apr 24, 2012 - Might I add Tony Williams Lifetime and UK and Allan Holdsworth to said list?
Grindgodgrind Says:
Apr 24, 2012 - I disagree. I like both. I prefer McLaughlins playing, but I still like Malmsteen too.

Apr 24, 2012 - Yes ofc, i myself am pretty "green" in the fusion/jazz landscape, but i have heard both of the artists you mentioned.

May 10, 2012 - Mclaughlin helped create the 'jazz fusion' genre along with Miles and co. Hes also arguably the first 'shredder' as can be heard here. Hes practically dabbled in everything-jazz,rock,fusion,Indian classical(Hindustani and Carnatic). The most underrated guitarist ever!
DWCartwright Says:
May 11, 2012 - Amonst those who understand music I don't think he's underrated. In all future retrospectives his increble contribution will be recognised more and more. He was at the heart of jazz rock fusion, an incredible progressive phase in music.
surfguitarplayer Says:
May 12, 2012 - Stellar. Cobham and McLaughlin on top of their game here. Timeless...led the whole Prog/Jazz Rock movement,in my opinion.

May 16, 2012 - and people try to say that Malmsteen is a based around classical music, like that fucking means anything.
GreedyNoobLike Says:
May 17, 2012 - I'm saying these are important albums not "easy ins" (w/e that means to anybody), which largely paved the way for a fusionesque style-which a lot of artists-including MO used in the 70's. Now I'm assuming, that since he requested this info on MO video, he already likes the band, so hearing these particular artists/albums wouldn't be a bad idea, because they all have commonalities more/less with MO.

Apr 9, 2012 - I really like Gene Ammons' album Up Tight! but there aren't very many recordings of it on youtube. Listen to kind of blue by Miles Davis. Someone told me that that was the most bought jazz album
