Apr 20, 2009 - Isn't part of the smart grid going to involve real-time pricing? That is, when you are using power from a peaker plant, you pay more than typical base load power. People don't typically know when a peaker plant is supplying their electricity (and their price will spike). This device would help them determine that and act accordingly... if I understand it correctly.

Apr 20, 2009 - Dirty coal is redundant. Clean coal is an oxymoron. Almost 50% of US energy is currently from coal. Thanks to status quo profiteers, graft and spineless, short-sighted politicians. There is enough wind in the US to power it 2-3 times over. The problem is flattening the power curve, and getting transmission... problems already being sovled.

Apr 23, 2009 - This is cool.

Apr 25, 2009 - how can i get one of those meters?

Apr 29, 2009 - Good work Google and GE, so when will this be coming to Australia?
dmoore247 Says:
May 18, 2009 - You have it correct. Realtime price signals will make permanent change in behaviour. Without price signals this is all but a fad or bubble 3.0

May 18, 2009 - I used GE Healthcare solutions on an everyday basis at the lab and I have to admit that they are good ;) I don't get why GE does not advertize about what it does in France ;)

Aug 4, 2009 - Yes but this meter is what a majority of the public is lazy and will not do that htis will actually show them when they use it how much they use and the cost. This is great technology and will do alot of good. also you do not have to pay for that device the power company will provide it to you.

Sep 8, 2009 - These people are crooks. Beware of big business! They will tell you all the good about something new but will ALWAYS fail to tell you the bad and possible power they will gain over the people.
SevenStillSees Says:
Oct 27, 2009 - the utility companies will run your lives into enslavement - they will control your habitat and livlihood soon.
sovereigninhabitant Says:
Oct 28, 2009 - Enslavement is correct....No one can even see it though.....
DemonCris Says:
Dec 6, 2009 - Business indeed. But... we are facing a bigger problem about the environment changes. That really threats our lives, especially for those people in 'under-developed countries'. If this is a business, I will accept it because I want the earth recovering from our destruction. The smart grid seems to help reduce the power consumption. Most importantly, everyone will be aware of how much you had spent on power consumption, not at the moment you got the bill.
im1greatman Says:
Dec 6, 2009 - Like I said. They will tell you all the supposed "good" to come from it like you just did but you fail to see the down side to this. 1. The global warming scam has been exposed for what it is. A SCAM2. We're not destroying the earth just over exploiting it. Look's to me that you wish to support a corporation that does most of the damage.3. The smart grid will do nothing to "curb" peoples power consumption and will possibly make things more expensive. Try to debunk that.
pacificcresttrans Says:
Dec 22, 2009 - By adopting the Smart Grid, people will be able to know the amount of energy that is used and it will also help save energy during peak hours. Transformer company, Pacific Crest Transformers is working to see if transformers are ready for the smart system.
iCara69 Says:
Jan 8, 2010 - 1) biggest challenge of smart grid is to make ppl pay for peaking price instead of average monthly price, especially for the "good" customers that only use ACs when it is really hot/cold.2) peaking hrs are there because it is hot/humid in the summer afternoons. smart grid can increase some system efficiency but can does nothing fundamentally to decrease the peak dmd.
novarenewable Says:
Mar 25, 2010 - In order to have a truly smart grid you need to invest in reliable renewable energy sources like the new anti-power outage technology. No, it is not hydro-electric. I have access to this technology and would be honored to share it with you. Thank you.
ShadowWolf0713 Says:
Apr 3, 2011 - The idea of "clean coal" in and of itself does sound like and oxymoron. Clean coal is generally a shortened term of clean coal technology. CCT is based mainly in making the emissions from power plants have low amount of polluting emissions, and on sequestering the CO2 that is produced.
ShadowWolf0713 Says:
Apr 3, 2011 - Most coal plants in the US have sulphur scrubbers, which clean the SO2 from the emissions to great effect. CO2 output is typically very high for coal plants, though, and current CCT is focused on ways to decrease CO2 through either sequestration or better engineering.

Dec 17, 2011 - These guys have trouble getting to the point. They should have spent this conference time to agree upon a universal plan on how to implement smart-grid to local communities and how to fund this operation. They also should have addressed the issue on how to make renewable energy more appealing to the average consumer. Agreeing upon at least one plan would have made more sense than general chit-chat about what is going on and what "might" happen in the future with the utility sector.
