Apr 1, 2012 - [1/2] So-called "doctoral thesis defence" in Poland takes place in front of whole faculty council (30+ professors) and is open i.e. anyone who's interested may come. First think they read your short bio so anyone knows who you are. Then you have 20 minutes to present your thesis. Next they read reviews of your thesis by two professors (they have to be positive) and you have to answer any questions they had (you know them in advance; answers have to be satisfactory). Next step is questions from faculty council members - again you have to give satisfactory answers to all questions. Now is the turn for the audience to ask any questions they like. When dean of faculty decides it is enough, audience and "victim" ;) are asked to leave the room while faculty council debates and conducts a secret ballot.
