The endings of their novels are mostly ambiguous, open to interpretation. I've read WH many times, and read the 'how anyone could ever imagine unquiet slumbers' as being ironic. All is calm and peaceful now but Cathy and Heathcliff continue to rage at each other in hell. WH is an incredibly violent novel. Read it again not as a romance.
