Why not polycentric law where justice and defence is private and un-monopolized?

The parliament ensures the safeguarding of the wishes of the minority through the opposition parties. Agreed, this may not be the purest form of democracy, but it is what we mean when we talk about democracy nowadays. So yeah, democracy IS all of these things.

Nov 21, 2011 - Yeah. Modern, representative democracy is a bit different than direct democracy. It's even worse. Instead of mob rule, the mob elects a bunch of politicians who vote to control the lives of everybody in society. The electoral process is so crappy at getting bad politicians out of office that they, more often than not, don't even listen to the people that elected them, and instead pander to corporations and special interests.
