If you saw Taylor Swift's Grammy performance with Stevie Nicks on Sunday, you know the country pop star wasn't in her best voice. And Taylor, who took home the album of the year trophy that night, has since taken her fair share of criticism for it. So, Scott Borchetta, CEO of Taylor's label Big Machine Records, came to her defense in the media. "Maybe she's not the best technical singer, but she's probably the best emotional singer because everybody else who gets up there and is technically perfect, people don't seem to want more of it," Borchetta told The Tennessean (via Rolling Stone). He also told the AP, "This is not American Idol. This is not a competition of getting up and seeing who can sing the highest note. This is about a true artist and writer and communicator. It's not about that technically perfect performance."And he didn't stop there, going on to say, "I think [the critics] are missing the whole voice of a generation that is happening right in front of them. Maybe they are jealous or can't understand that, but obviously the people that she talks to are engaged with her." (Come on Dude. I've got nothing against Taylor. She's cute. But people aren't "jealous." They're just pointing out that she's not a very good singer and her performance was terrible. You sound like an elementary school mother lying to her kid.) And now Kelly "Always has Something to Say" Clarkson is all mad about the American Idol comments. The first ever Idol winner immediately responded in an open letter on her I Am Kelly blog (found via Rolling Stone).Kelly writes:"Wow .....Dear Scott Borchetta,I understand defending your artist obviously because I have done the same in the past for artists I like, including Taylor, so you might see why it's upsetting to read you attacking American Idol for producing simply vocalists that hit 'the high notes'. Thank you for that 'Captain Obvious' sense of humor because you know what, we not only hit the high notes, you forgot to mention we generally hit the 'right' notes as well. Every artist has a bad performance or two and that is understandable, but throwing blame will not make the situation at hand any better. Jul 7, 2011 - Kelly wrote every song on My December, she also wrote Because of You which was an amazing song at the age of 16... yeah some songs she works with other writers or uses but she makes plenty of demos and wrote like 60 songs for my December before deciding the ones she wanted. She can write her music too. people do not know enough about the things they dislike.

Jul 7, 2011 - She wrote over 60 songs for My December and then chose the ones that are on the album, she wrote all of them. She also wrote Because of You when she was 16 years old fyi she can write and she can sing.

That with a fake voice that is showy and changed with computers. If compared to cars that would be like having a beautiful car but it doesn't start... you wanna hear that engine purr. Jul 7, 2011 - I never disliked Kelly. I think she is just as talented as well. I just felt the need to stick up for Taylor because Taylor is a great songwriter. I feel as if everyone is bashing her just because she doesn't have the perfect singing voice. I'm sure Kelly has some good song ideas too but I can relate to Taylor's more for some reason. It doesn't mean I like Taylor better.

Jan 29, 2012 - Taylor wins time and time again, but i just don't get it. I guess it's for the teenybopper crowd. Not that I haven't enjoyed anything she ever did, I have. Just not on the same level as Clarkson. She is really moving in her songs.
