Title: Noam Chomsky on Israel-Palestine Prisoner Exchange, U.S. Assassination Campaign in Yemen
Added: Oct 18, 2011

Description:
www.DemocracyNow.org - MIT Professor Emeritus Noam Chomsky, the world renewed linguist and political dissident, spoke Monday night at Barnard College in New York City about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, just hours before Israel and Hamas completed a historic prisoner exchange. Democracy Now! airs an excerpt of his address."I think [Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit] should have been released a long time ago, but there's something missing from this whole story. There are no pictures of Palestinian women, no discussion, in fact, in the story of, what about the Palestinian prisoners being released? Where do they come from?" Chomsky says. "There is a lot to say about that. For example, we do not know -- at least I do not read it in The Times — whether the release includes the elected officials who were kidnapped and imprisoned by Israel in 2007 when the United States, the European Union, and Israel decided to dissolve the only freely elected legislature in the Arab world." Chomsky also discussed the recent U.S. assassination of U.S.-born cleric Anwar al-Awlaki in Yemen. "Almost all of the critics, of whom there were not many, criticized the action or qualified it because of the fact that al-Awlaki was an American citizen," Chomksy says. "That is, he was a person, unlike suspects who are intentionally murdered or collateral damage, meaning we treat them kind of like the ants we step on when we walk down the street — they're not American citizens. They are unpeople, therefore, they can be freely murdered."For the complete transcript, podcast, and for additional Democracy Now! interviews with Noam Chomsky, visit http://www.democracynow.org/tags/noam_chomskyFOLLOW DEMOCRACY NOW! Oct 19, 2011 - Do people who define themselves as American truly not understand that the Constitution of the United States of America is relevant only to America? Honestly sometimes I really wonder why they are so myopic. It is really quite strange.I am not using the word people as defined in this video . Rather I am using people as in we are all people. A corporate entity is not a person if someones legal definition differs to this then I definitely disagree.I repeat a corporation is not a person.

Oct 19, 2011 - Democracy Now is a US-government "terrorist" channel and should never be watched, and that ugly bitch presenter who looks like a dude needs to be sodomized by an elephant, that fucking ugly whore. STFOOO!

Oct 19, 2011 - Yes, DemocracyNow has been a good source of news for years. But lately it has been a little too mainstream in the opinion of some. It's best to seek several sources before you form an opinion.
TheDavidDaoud Says:
Oct 19, 2011 - What would you consider a good source for news? If you don't like Amy Goodman or Democracy Now, which news program do you like?
blacktjack101 Says:
Oct 19, 2011 - How about the truth? There is one channel worth following at :youtube.com/user/cgreene34

Oct 19, 2011 - Except that none of the people on your list are "idiots", but exceptional human beings. It seems to me that you need to get back to the basics of Judaism, if you want to continue to call yourself a Jew.

Oct 19, 2011 - I love you Noam. We must abolish the concept of unpeople...
boskinator Says:
Oct 19, 2011 - The only reason you claim that they are "exceptional" is the fact that they support your skewed view on the Israeli/palestinian conflict - otherwise they would be kuffar, like all other non-muslims.I'm not Jewish, but I am a Zionist. It seems to me that you should renounce your Islamic faith...oh, wait...what's the penalty for that again?
TheJonnyx1 Says:
Oct 20, 2011 - Mainstream? With regular guests such as Noam Chomsky and Norman Finkelstein, this allegation is absurd. Name one media source with regular guests such as these, not to mention the hundreds of other guests which give the other side of the story.
CCSF1999 Says:
Oct 20, 2011 - Just to respond to your last comment. You refer to the penalty for renouncing Islamic faith per classical theory of books of Islamic law. In practice, these penalties for the most part don't happen because of different factors such as when Muslims live in a secular state or other reasons such as living in a Muslim state where there is a tyrannical ruler, who may abuse this power. Just as the US constitution is subject to interpretation by const. lawyers so is the Shari'a.
boskinator Says:
Oct 20, 2011 - Are you saying that apostates are NOT killed for leaving Islam? The fact is, they do. Now. In 2011.They happen in Pakistan. In Saudi. Iran. Gaza. etc etc etc.Don't even try to compare Sharia law to the US Constitution. It's insulting.
CCSF1999 Says:
Oct 20, 2011 - About 1st question, in many cases they are not, as I mentioned above. Islamic law is subject to qualifications according to changing social situations. As for the countries you mentioned above, they are places that are either countries infested with military or politcal turmoil or they are despotic governments in geopolitical contests . Your comment about the penalty for apostasy in Islam is oversimplified and overstated. As for the last comment, Im not interested in value judgements.
lourak Says:
Oct 24, 2011 - Noam is as radical and as.....unhinged as ever. Don't all attack at once, Chomsky devotees...
lourak Says:
Oct 24, 2011 - Notwithstanding Chomsky's brilliant analytical ability - the underlying premise of his presentation, here - the "un-people" premise - as usual - is thoroughly flawed on its face: If the Palestinians have been devalued as people - blame their own leaders. Have we ever seen an equitable exchange of prisoners between Israel and the Palestinians? When did we last hear of the Palestinians offering a release of ONE Israeli, for ONE Palestinian? Who is responsible for the devaluation?
donluchitti Says:
Nov 18, 2011 - look at traditional devalued peoples in the span of history. Seek out the psychology behind being a person who is subject to marginalization, such as Blacks in America. While Palestinians have in their lot, those who flagrantly defy any sort of stance on peace by provoking and outright committing violent acts, I would excuse this mentality. It's a small point to hold them to the fire for it; the defeated victim will tend to assiduously seek maximal profit from it's small advantages.
donluchitti Says:
Nov 18, 2011 - besides, I think Israel is okay with these exchanges. It makes them look quite generous and enforces a surface view of the Palestinians' barbarity while also, considering these prisoners may return to engage in futher hostile actions against Israel, will ensure a future reason to once again encroach into Palestinian territory for future military/ defense actions.
donluchitti Says:
Nov 18, 2011 - he's getting old.
darkillity Says:
Feb 2, 2012 - Is this the level that Chomsky has eventually steeped to? Defending Anwar al-Awlaki and Osama Bin Laden?!Forget about the means of al-Qaeda, let's just talk about their aims. These killers, sadists and barbarians want to instate a global Islamic theocratic state, under the rule of which nothing of what Chomsky apparently cherishes is allowed: democracy, woman's rights, freedom of speech or any kind of humanitarian values.I'm a Palestinian by the way.
